Orda Horde v2 mod questions

Downloaded the Orda Horde v2 mod and was very happy to see my little Mongol army in Armenia However, my joy was tempered upon seeing the Turks and Byzzies stacking up on massive numbers of units like Ghulam cavalry (in Early&#33 while I struggled to build urban militia, searching in vain for a way to start building Mongol cavalry. When I began to build a Royal Palace, the game promptly crashed.

So is there any fix or tech tree out there for the Orda Horde mod? Failing that, are there any other mods out there that let you play (and build) as the Mongols in Early or High periods?

Greetings Ckrisz, glad to see you campaigning as the Horde.
I have a question to ask due to what you stated in your post.
You mentioned Orda's Horde mod and also v2. By v2 do you mean Tosa's all 20 Factions which is called v21?

The reason I ask this is your start province. It sounds like you have selected 'all 20 Early' because the start province in v21 is Armenia. Orda's Horde comes with a statswapper which gives you
v1.1, all 20 factions, OH custom and online and OH campaign.Once you select the OH stats, select Early and you will find you have all factions to choose from, including the Horde.

The start province is Khazar and you will find Orda's Horde is a bit different to the Horde in the game. You have a few extra choices with infantry plus an extra cav unit.
Due to alliegance of Golden Horde and Mameluk Egypt during Berke's reign you get to choose Saracen infantry and Muwahid foot. The Russian principalities were part of the Mongol fief hence the addition of Militia sergeants, feudal sergeants and Halbediers.
Mongol Horsearchers were more correctly a light cavalry unit armed with bows, sword, dagger and 2 - 3 javelins. They also carried 60 - 90 arrows, so you will perhaps notice Orda's Horde Horsearchers are a bit tougher and have more arrows. There is a 'Golden Horde Auxilliary Cavalry' unit which throws javelins (like the jinettes ) It was too difficult to try a unit that had 2 range plus melee. The Heavy Cav has also been improved, better melee and faster.

Okay, thanks Orda ... so when I install this, is the statswapper something I have to run right after I do the OH install? Or do I choose another campaign from the menu?

I did choose the All 20 Early campaign, if I recall; there was another option besides All 20 Early, All 20 High, and All 20 Late, but I can't recall the name ... is that the mod you're talking about?

Orda, sounds like a great campaign ... can't wait to play it Is there a techtree available? I REALLY want to start churning out the horse archers How about ships, trade, strategic units, religion? Is the mod compatible with the Pagan Civil Rights mod?

Did you read the read me contained in the OH download? Extract contents of OH.zip to MTW main directory. You will now have a new directory called OH containing 3 sub directories and 3 batfiles, a read me and OrdasHorde.bat. Choice.com is included so XP users should install this first in order to execute bat files. Run SetupOH.bat and choose set up under option A. Create a short cut and you can then use the swapper to select the stat you want. One thing...you need to quit MTW to swap. The above is all contained on the read me file plus there are some extras. Do you have Shogun WE/MI? If so there's a set up included so you can transfer the sound files for Mongols. It's a nice touch, the orders and music from Mongol Invasion.

To run Orda's Horde for a campaign you will need to select Option D from the Options list in the swapper. When you go to New Campaign select Early, High or Late. One tip.....if you want horse archers and heavy cav head for Muscovy and Novgorod. Why build your own buildings when you can take someone elses?

With v21 mod it's the same sort of idea but just 2 options - 1.1 and v21. When you load this mod you will find you have 6 eras early high late and all 20 early all 20 high and all 20 late. You can select any faction at any time but you will be playing 1.1 stats until you swap to v21 stats.( This is what you have done ) The v21 stats have changed a few aspects of the game, give them a try I liked them...range units are way better on v21

But for a Mongol campaign use OH you get real Mongols then

Because of the new Mongol units it won't be compatible. Also you will need to be on the correct stat if you want to view a replay of a battle and so on.

Hello Ckrisz,

The campaigns you actually 'need' are OhEarly, OhHigh and OhLate. Those are installed by default. But you need to have the custom OH stat installed to see all three of them in your campaignlist. That's because you start with a few 'new' units in two of them. 'New' because most aren't really new, but copies of existing units with different stats.

Make sure that you exit the game when you change anything.

After you unzipped the file, you'll first have to set it up, go to the Oh folder in MTW:

-1 Run SetupOH2.bat (only 1 time required) and setup.
-2 You may then consider to use the MI mongol music and sound, if you own the CD. Run SoundSetupOH.bat to setup the rollback folder and manually copy sound files from STW MI.
-3 You can run SoundSwapperOH.bat to select music used with the game. Only do this if and after you setup the sound in step 2.

Run OrdasHorde2.bat in the main MTW folder and select option C (Orda Horde stat). You can return to the default 1.1 stat anytime (this mod allows to reverse anything).

OrdaHordeReadme.txt, in the MTW folder explains things.

You'll find a slightly different mongol army to start with.

The Mongols are Pagan. They are a barbaric raider faction, not supposed to be playable. It doesn't surprise me too much that some structures won't work. I may look in it.

Compatibility. This mod installs exta files, adds extra info to some custom files (those will still work with normal games) and has managers to swap files. Parts will be compatible with the normal game/other mods, or you just move them away. Other mods may 'damage' required files for OH mod, in which case you'll have to run SetupOH2.bat again.

Orda talked about the versions, OH2 is the updated version. Orda started with version 1 and received small updates.

The All20 campaigns are made to enable all 20 factions in online and custom games. But you could try them in a campaign.

P.S. v21 stats are a bit of an experiment with some other online players. They are not part of the mod.

Okay great, I'll try that tonight. So I shouldn't use the Early All 20 Campaign, but rather the Early OH Campaign? I will also try it out with the 2.1 stats ... finally horse archers as deadly as they're supposed to be

Yes I have begun a new campaign, I have gone for an Early start this time ( see what other units there are to slaughter )
I started in High last time and the toughest test I had on the battlefield, believe it or not were the Swiss Swiss Armoured Pikemen are certainly strong. Hehe the ironic part was the Swiss faction when it emerged, had been formed by a group of rebels....Would you believe the remnants of the units I defeated when I had a Civil War Yes they still had Saracen Infantry and Mongol Horse Archers alongside Royal Knights, Swiss Armoured Pikemen and Handgunners. Thankfully they were still a small Faction and conflict was brief.
When I get a civil war I think I will split my campaign in two....side with the Rebels and use the save feature to get to the same point and this time remain loyal. It will be interesting to see which is the most successful.

As for the other campaign, I will save that until VI is launched. I read about the save between battles feature There seems to be a few issues at present such as queue bugs and others that are causing odd things from crashes to revolts in loyal provinces. As you know, my people had never had it so good. We are the richest with the largest army and all provinces have been improved, yet they revolt. Even in provinces that have large armies led by top generals. Hopefully there will be some fixes in VI.

So I am embarking on a quest for domination once again. The rebels nearby seem a tough bunch...I'll keep you posted

Got the game started and am having a great time Loved those giant 100-man units at the start of Orda Horde v2. Started the EarlyOH campaign and have taken all of Russia and Eastern Europe, and am now warring with the Turks and plan to take the Middle East to finance my conquest of the West. However, I find myself unable to build Halberdiers, Feudal Sergeants, or Saracens. The heaviest infantry I can build are Archers and Woodsmen --- thus my armies are overwhelmingly cavalry-based, swarms of Golden Horde Auxiliary Cav and Steppe Cav, basically --- finally got Novgorod producing Mongol Horse Archers. It's pretty interesting playing cav-only armies ... lots of micromanagement required.

So what do I have to build to get Heavy Cav? I REALLY need it as I'm having Crusades thrown my way on a constant basis. I can't seem to find any buildings that list requirements for the Heavy Cav units. Thanks

Great news Ckrisz and yes the micro management is fun. Don't you just love those horse archers? Mongol heavy cav requires spearmaker and horsebreeder plus the upgrades, these will also allow you to train the infantry you want. I have only just started an Early campaign. Mongol heavy cav are a High era unit so you may not get them til later. Why don't you produce huge swarms of Horse Archers? They are more than worth their weight. How do you like the Aux cav?

You mentioned Crusades...what are they sending against you?

Wait until you have a Civil War, I lost my best General..he was 8 star He went on to found the Swiss Faction

I checked on the Heavy cav and you will need a Master Horse Breeder and Master Spearmaker...For Horse Archers it's Bowyers Guild and Horse Breeders Guild. If you take a few Turkish provinces what can you train then? Don't worry you will have your infantry soon and btw be careful in the desert, don't take Halbediers, they tend to self baste in their armour.
When you get your Heavy cav, try an all cav army. I have a 6 star Horse Archer general (named Orda ) and his army is 6 Heavy cav and 10 Horse Archers. So far they have eaten all in their path and that includes huge Egyptian armies with unit upon unit of Ghulams, Saracens, Camels the lot. His army is around 580 men and has proved itself time and again.

Orda, thanks for the clarification re: Heavy Cavalry and Halberdiers being High period ... forgot about that However, I still find myself unable to build Feudals or Saracens. Ah well, all-cav armies are more historically realistic for the Golden Horde anyway.

Love the Auxiliary Cav. They've totally replaced Steppe Cav for me ... what are the stats on them? The javelins are great though, they've saved my ass numerous times against Crusader Knights.

Looks like my armies until the High Period are going to be mixed Auxiliaries and Horse Archers ... and that's just fine It's interesting to play all-light-cav armies, you really feel like a general maneuvering all these high-speed cav units around, plus it's nice to have to come up with Mongol-style tactics. A real change from the standard "fix on spears/flank/mop up" style of the vast majority of the factions.

The Crusades have really been my biggest problem. Haven't had any rebellions or civil wars, but I've had successions of German and Italian Crusades thrown at me, and those 40-man Teutonic and Hospitaller Knights can really turn your day around. One German Crusade wrecked two of my outlying garrisons when I got tangled up flanking their infantry and their Teutonics got in among with my Steppe Cav ... *sigh*

Heh heh ... can't wait for the High Period No Ain Jalut will save the Egyptians this time

Just goes to show how different campaigns can be. I had revolts almost every year in Livonia and Lithuania and as for the Civil War...That came totally out of the blue and it was led by my 8 star gen who was extremely loyal. I had a 'choose your side' option. What to do? Orda was only 2 star then but had loads of horse archers and I didn't want to lose them. Luckily he remained loyal.
As for Crusades, one turned up in one of my provinces but it was heading for an Egyptian province. I must admit I pressed attack by mistake but I had no repercussion after driving them out. It was more or less the same with the Jihads the Egyptians declared on me. I defeated at least 4 Jihads and their consequent failure to 'drive out the infidel' caused unrest among their Eastern territories. The Egyptians were by far the most numerous enemy I met and with a lot of strong units too. I was glad of the heavy cav then.

Orda's Horde came about because of the poor Horde in the game ( My first campaign was as Russia, especially to meet the Horde ) My Boyars and horse archer armies annihilated them I tried them in MP and found that the Western armies were just too strong. Tosa explained that stats could be altered etc...
Well that's a bit beyond me so he very kindly offered to do it. I gave him a list of units that were plausible if not totally accurate historically plus alterations to the existing weak Mongol cav. All I can say is this...
I've tried them in MP and they are just about spot on. They are not unbeatable by any means but they are no longer a joke and I find it so much more interesting using the Mongol 'Tulughma' than the infantry based tactics of the other Factions.
