Thread: Instal Help

I've heard great things about this mod, and am eager to try it. I made an effort to find the answer to this, and if it is somewhere obvious I am going to kick myself. So, sorry if this is a dumb question but I don't know that much about this kind of thing.

I recently tried downloading the Long Road MTW2 mod and was given the message below, which is the same as the one that pops up when I try to load EB. What program am I missing, or what should I do to get through/around this?

File EB1.1{2}

To open this file, windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer.

Thanks,
FC

Where did you get that file from? You can first try to rename it by deleting the '{2}' thing. Check also in the settings dialog if it is a .exe!

Once you get the installer to run, here is a guide on how to install EB: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270

And before you start playing, don't forget the EB-FAQ! https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=84854

I got it from the Filefront download link provided on the EB site.

I deleted the 2, which didn't seem to work. How do I make sure that it is .exe?

What should I be using to open this/run the installer? Winzip?

It is 'normal' Windows -installer, be sure that the exact name of the file is EB1.1.exe and that is size is 786 MB (824.204.729 Bytes).
FileFront is sometimes buggie, depending on your browser. If you have received a file with another size, you'll have to re-download. Using torrent will give you a clean and working file btw.

Do I only need to type in .exe to make it an .exe file?

And when I click on the torrent download link it just shows me a page full of strange symbols, it doesn't download.

Ok, I tried downloading the game from Org FTP and that seemed to work. I downloaded and installed the game. I tried to load it in the same folder as RTW was installed in, like the guide said, and had some trouble with finding the folder RTW was installed in... I put RTW and a copy of RTW on my desktop, like the guide instructed, but am unable to find an option for either of them when it asks me to choose the folder that RTW was installed in. How should I fix this? Sorry again if the answer is somewhere obvious, but I've looked around a bit...

Start the 1.1 installer, you will then come to a screen where you have to decide the destination for the files. Click on browse and hangle through the explorer until you are in the folder that contains your ROME-TW.exe. Select it and let the files extract. Afterwards you do the same with the 1.2 installer (plus deleting the text in the brackets after choosing the path). Check that you have no EB folder inside RTW\EB!!
At last step you apply the fixes for 1.2 which you can get from my signature. Be sure to place them in the right mentioned places!
Start EB using 'EB-Singleplayer' found in your RTW folder.
