    Default How does Taxation Work?

Can Someone explain to me how taxation works in EB? I'm Extremely confused because i cant understand how the Income of the City Goes From 154 to -47 in a turn! And No i haven't trained any new units in that city and No My Governor hasn't lost or gained any traits that would effect taxation. It was in my knowledge that the more population you have the more tax you'll get not the other way around which is in my case my tax income dropped from 1313 to 1157 in one single turn How does that happen? a Bug??

did you trained units in other cities? upkeep cost of units affect every cities of your empire.. like if the price is distributed... (well, this is what i remarked in my games, now, maybe I'm wrong!)

do you mean the income shown on the construction screen and on the campaign map, or the one in the Settlement overview(with all factors of pop groth, public order and income are shown)?

in case your reffering to the first: your army's salary is paid by your cities, to be precise costs for all units and Commanders are summed up and distributed to your settlements according to their population eg If one city holds a third of your population it has to pay a third of the summed up wages. these costs(together with corruption devastation etc) are subtracted from a city's income from Tax, Trade and Farming(and some other minor factors) thus when a city grows it can easily get a worse balance, corruption and devastation may be a dicisive factor aswell.

If you're reffering to the second one I have no idea.

I am talking about the Taxation in the Settlement overview! I'm puzzled how it can just drop, Lol does that mean a number of citizens dont pay their tax in a certain turn?

I am talking about Taxation! upkeep for troops has nothing to do with it, it is in a different category!

You are not talking about tax-income, you are talking about the over-all balance of your specific city which can drop/raise itself depending on your current salaries for troops and agents. The real tax can be seen in the city's infoscreen on the left, and it cannot turn negative.

Did your population decrease due to overtaxation? Besides taxes arent really that big of a deal unless you have no trade what so ever.

In my longest Roman Empire game Rome had like a positive 6000+ Income (Mining citiies like 10k+) Mostly due to trade. Taxation has an cap limit i think.

Some time ago there was a significant tax-income drop in my Carthaginian campaign too (it fell down from 2769 to 2758 minai per turn). I didn't ask any questions, but i executed my governor and all of his family instead. Darnit! i've almost gone bankrupt because of him!

Also always build Law Bonus temples. It is a must especially for huge empires.
I have added academies law bonus that EB has not added.
Corruption and huge armies kills your tax income.

Maybe you changed the tax rate? Maybe a plague happened? Maybe the game just genuinely hates you and wants to ruin your fun....
If tax went down then something affected it. If it is really bugging you then watch all the factors from turn to turn and try and figure it out. If not then don't worry, there isn't anything that you can do about it anyway if it is a bug.

but as it's something we can't change, what's the big deal about that? i really don't mean to be rude, but there's absolutly no point to do so much research for that...
