Thread: Can Pahlava even build irrigation?

  1. #1

Question Can Pahlava even build irrigation?

I took Gerrha and a few other desert factions (in experimental runs that I don't save), and in each case, I seem to have the required buildings and hidden resources...but no irrigation. Am I looking at the Building Tree and export_descr_buildings file wrong? Has anyone built irrigation as Pahlava on 1.2 (or EB Alexander)? If so, can you please help me before I pull my hair out?

Really? Would you mind outlining the process, because the process which the building tree demonstrates for building irrigation, along with a few other buildings (which aren't important because I've built them anyhow), really doesn't make sense to me for some reason. It almost seems like the process has changed since early versions or something. For ex. the Parthian Reform gov1 goes to irrigation, yet none of the cities with the hidden resource pahlavahome also have desert...which is kind of a no win situation! Also, it shows both traditional agriculture, and/orthe whole agricultural ladder from traditional agriculture to fortified granaries, along with the Parthian Reform, as being necessary.

Then the export_descr_building file shows irrigation requiring minimum hinterland farms farms1 (aka traditional agriculture), hidden resource desert, and minimum level gov2...(don't even get me started about what gov2 is for Parthia...I thought it was Pastoralism or Nomadism or an Allied/Client gov, then I look in the edb and I'm about to have an aneurysm)

    Oy vey...

BTW, have you tried building them in Gerrha by chance? (Maybe I'm missing a hidden resource or something that disqualifies it)

    Much thanks to you, friend.

Pahlava simply cannot build irrigation in those cities without a proper government building, which are gov1 or gov2. Well, Pahlava do have a principally gov1+gov2 building, which named "Parthian Reform Government", but it just can be built in regions that have "pahlavahome" resource, while none of "desert"-resource-regions have that.

To build irrigation, you have to do it with trick, using loophole in EDB data system. You have to “steal” the former faction gov1 and gov2 buildings, and then you can build irrigation.

I am using gov1 and gov2 of Saba, Ptolemaioi and Qartadast in those cities to build irrigation, but not in Gerrha, coz in my campaign, it only has Gov4 of Saba to begin with.

You may but you need some modding :

    1- go to C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\EB\Data

2- open export_descr_buildings.txt with any tex editor. I use nodepad++ free..

    3- ctrl+f write "gov1 requires factions "

    change that line with:

'gov1 requires factions { britons, dacia, gauls, germans, scythia, spain, egypt, saba, carthage, romans_scipii, numidia, romans_brutii, romans_julii, greek_cities, macedon, thrace, seleucid, parthia,} and building_present_min_level hinterland_precursor homeland and not hidden_resource not_here'

do the same with gov2 and gov 3

in fact Pahlava has Gov 1-2-3-4 but it was disabled after EB team added reformed parthian goverment I use both.

if you manage to to it you will see such picture:

As I said in the picture you need reformed pahlava goverment. I use both system I roleplay with old system after I conquered mesopotamia and whole Iranian plateu I build reformed goverment.

I hope it help a bit.

Wow, thanks to both of you. I was somewhat aware of how you can use the former owner's government buildings for your own sadistic, amoral purposes, but I never thought about adding adding Parthia to the gov1, gov2, etc buildings...I hadn't even thought to look up the gov buildings in edb until yesterday or the day before.

I'm gonna mess around with this new found knowledge and I'll be sure to follow up with my results. [translated: if I screw anything up, I am probably gonna nag both of you with questions, but I'll be respectful and try to avoid becoming a whiny little baby whom you both will want to strangle! ]

Well, I added Parthia to gov1, gov2, and gov3 and took the pahlavahome requirement from the reform buildings (stop! do not begin chanting "deserter! coward!" I would feel DIRTY building full on reform buildings where they don't belong--I about dry heaved at the thought of it an hour ago or so. The most I would do is build it, build appropriate stuff, then destroy the reform stuff and build up appropriate govs...but I find the limits on irrigation, etc somewhat frustrating). Thanks everyone for your help. This has given the game a new appeal for sure.

Atraphoenix- I don't really use existing govs for long, just to build a few high end things (with the , and then I destroy them, and for the reason you outlined above: no MICs (and I have an irrational urge to build mics, even if I will never, ever, ever use them...it doesn't matter though, I mean once you have the east and the mines from Kophen to India, you pretty much CAN'T SPEND ALL THE $ you get per turn).

I roleplay with old and new. Imagine that you have a nomad nation who conquered a settled civilazation. So assimilation is impossible to prevent. The only problem is every parthian homeland do not allow you build reformed one. In fact I call it traditionalists and modernist generation gap.
