    I took a very quick look, but seems that you installed it into the C drive...
    Install it in another one...

    seconded, Vista, and even some security patch on XP are extremely annoying when you install any program files that was not from Microsoft to drive C:
    better try with D: E: or some another partition

    Yes, well that's all well and good except that I don't have any other partitions and have no idea how to create them, so my only chance then would be to install this thing on an external hard drive, I suppose?

    Right-click on "play EB", then select "properties". It should say "Goal" somewhere. Make sure it looks like this: '"C:/.../Rome - Total War/RTW.exe" -mod:EB"'

    You did not install the trivial script 0_o?

    Oh..so I'm not the only person who can't get EB to download without completely locking up Firefox/IE?

    EB 1.2 patch downloaded fine. But every time I try to download EB 1.1, as soon as the download finishes and reaches 99%, the browser completely locks up and must be End Task'd. Also, whenever I try to select and delete the EB1_1.exe file that (kind of) downloaded, Windows Explorer locks up. Are these symptoms of the corrupted installation this thread talks about? Of course, I can't even get close to even opening the exe, nevermind installing..

    I suppose I'll need to try this. Is there some official word on why this is happening? I don't see it mentioned in any stickies. Been itching to play EB again lately.

    Isn't there a 1.2 patch for RTW?

    @OP:
    Although I admire your rigorous approach to ensuring nothing can go wrong, I must inform you that the reason is probably, as Hax has hinted at, not an error on your part but the fact that the EB 1 installers do not create proper shortcuts. This is a bug in the installer itself, which unfortunately cannot be solved by rebooting after every screenshot.

    “Target”, not “Goal” in case you are confused by not having any such properties...

    From looking at the screenshots that shortcut (the EB Play file) should contain:
    Target: "C:\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err
    Start In: "C:\Rome - Total War\"

    The errors related to “java” suggests a different problem. If you have Java installed you can locate where you have installed it, and then find the folder called “bin” inside this location. It contains the java.exe program. Now modify the validateInstall.bat file to replace its use of “java” with the full path (quoted) to the java.exe program. I.e. modify it to use, for example: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1_6_21\bin\java.exe" instead of java or java.exe. That should fix the problems provided that (a) you do it right, (b) do not modify anything else in the bat file. So if something originally read “java -jar eb.jar” then you should not touch the “ -jar eb.jar” bit.

    Thanks so much for the help, guys... EB now works and I've installed 1.2 and the three fixes... Now, I just have to get over one final hurdle, getting EB to work with Alex.exe... I've looked in this thread and downloaded the relevant "engine file"...

    ...but I'm afraid I don't understand the instructions. I don't suppose one of you could explain them to me, could they?
