I am fairly certain that this is just a coincidence. Some of my best scum-hunting has been after my own death; maybe not this year. Of my mafia teammates I usually outlive them for some reason.

What I do find a strange pattern with is that people tend to lynch me when I am town and leave me alone when I am mafia. That explains the higher percentage of mafia wins/survivals over standard.

Whatever I do when I am townie is extremely scummy for some reason, and I need to act more like I do when I am mafia in order to survive as town.
