Thumbs down The Pirates of Western Gaul (Atlantic Coast)

Im currently having a problem of ridiculously sized pirate navies blockading Burdigala, Lemonum and Dartora bla bla. Theres no way the Arverni ( me) have enough money to buy them off and ive got no ports in the area. What can I do to make them go away coz a nice 3 city to mainland spain trade is being crippled

Pirates are a pain in the arse, I just despise them.

If you th ink cheating is not cool in this case, which many will, just wait, they'll go away some time, I guess.

Sadly there is no other option other than use military force. As the Arverni your economy is unlikely to be in a position to support the sort of fleet required to get rid of these pirates (as a Casse player I am all too aware of the huge stacks which roam the channel) therefore your only option, unfortunatly is to deny them harbours, if you can secure the Atlantic coast they will start to focus more on the Sweboz harbours in the Baltic, or so I have found. Sorry there is no quick solution to this problem.

Even a SINGLE ship would be a strain..... would the move charachter work? if so then where do I "teleport" them?

Yep, the move character would work. Move them to that little landlocked Dead Sea in Judea.

    move_character "Admiral Vindex" x, y

When you're moving fleets, don't forget to put the "admiral" in there. This was done assuming that the admiral's name was vindex. For the x and y co-ordinates, find a place on the map, put the mouse scroller over it, then open the console and type:

    show_cursorstat

This will give you te x & y co-ordinates, which you can use to plug into the move_character command.

Do fleets have modified charachter names? as in would I have to look up the internal name?

    Oh yeah, I forgot.

EB has a strange name file. Anyways, it's like this: if "Admiral Vindex" doesn't work, then try "Admiral VindexA" through "Admiral VindexZ" ok?

conquer west country-them people always spam pirates. for example, I once ran into a pirate from the area in EB-his name was Edward Teache

    jk..jk..

but look, if you don't wanna cheat, and ye be worried about pirates, then just train a navy. of course, this is assuming you have the financial ability to do so. since you don't, I suggest you focus on what you have economically.

If you take Darioritum, you can build very powerful ships there (first you have to build a Fleet port though). It is imperative that you build a Type I government in Darioritum, so as to be able to construct the biggest level of trade port as well.

Also, Arverni can build up a very decent economy if you're careful with it. Try to build paved roads ASAP.

Well, IMO pirates would better be represented by a negative income modifier in any coastal area that didnt have appropriate defences. ie a fleet, or certain buildngs. In real history they were present almost everywhere and almost always. The classic example of this is shown by Pompey's special command at a time when you would have thought the Western Mediterannean would be secure. ANyway, in EB constant pirate activity is represented by very large and powerful pirate stacks in extremely wild locations such as the Baltic. For practical purposes these are undefeatable without a massive investment in ships that will far outweigh any cost the pirates might cause from occasionally blockading a port. I would argue that there should be more pirates and more powerful fleets in the Mediterannean really and less in the cold north, where the inhabitants alreays suffer enough income and growth penalties. The Sweboz probably suffer the most from this as even their best ships are pretty awful and they can only build them in a couple of hard to reach places.

Meanwhile Rome, Carthage and the Ptolemies who suffered the most from pirates historically get a relatively easy time of it. So, teleporting pirate fleets from the Baltic to the Agean isnt so much cheating IMO, as allowing a more accurate depiction of historical fact.
