Yes. The advice is, if you receive a repeatable battle-related CTD during AI turn and you want to play the battle manually, to turn off auto-save. My personal two cents about this is to just deactivate it after installing EB or any RTW/MTW2 thing, this feature is way too buggy. You will then have to remember to make saves by yourself, however you should keep multiple slots for each campaign, so you can revert to them in the worst case.
