Exclamation 9/11: Always remember the Y2K release of Battlefield Earth

Today is a day for all Americans to remember, the tenth anniversary of the release of John Travolta's SF epic, Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000. Instead of anger or politics, let's just bow our heads and commit ourselves to a better class of SF movie. Oh, and today is my boy lemur's seventh birthday. Since he will one day rule the world, you might want to start celebrating.

For several reasons, I do wish the 'terror attack event' would not have been given the name of a date. (Which seems to be the ultimate subject of the thread)

On the upside, 9-11 is the birthday of a friend of mine, one of the easiest to remember, and I haven't missed it in a near decade.

Like Lemur (jr), she does hate that the birthday is associated with the terror attack event.

I don't get why Americans keep saying the twin tower terrorist attack happened on the 9th of November...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
America is the only country in the world with mm-dd-yyyy opposed to the international dd-mm-yyyy (and the reverse yyyy-mm-dd model).

Weirdly, however, they seem to be able to write and say "Fourth of July" correctly without fail...

They also can't spell certain words like colour correctly. It really is a different world over there.

The "dd-mm-yyyy" method is too French in it's syntax. "Eleventh de September". I thought you British were better than that.

I remember September 11th, 2001 as the release date of Slayer's God Hates Us All album.

It's also the date when Elvis Presley appeared on the Ed Sullivan show for the first time in 1956. Never forget!

    Never forget BE
There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

hahahaha!! I like it. I say "never forget" about everything. If humor means that the terrorists are winning, I like it.

It means quite the opposite actually.

Not joking about something because everyone is touchy-feely about a date or a place means the terrorists are winning. What's even sillier is when the date or place is hijacked by multiple other issues and people that claim to be related (when really one would still exist without the other), but god forbid people make jokes or even blow the day off, gosh that is sacrilege.

Didn't you all get the memo? 9/11 is our day, not any other countries day.

I confess I don't quite understand more than half of the posts here...nonetheless, this is a 9/11 thread....so, my condolences, to all those who suffered a loss that day.

A good finish, so we will leave it here.
