Magic word or not, it would be unthinkable 20 years ago, but nowadays it simply can be true, and because it's england it probably is. England is it's own Monty Python sketch really, imagine a toddler saying yuck when he eats a spoon of curry, he doesn't like curry, and an army of thoushalnots rush in to intervene and paint a big R on his head. I was joking and not joking at the same time, it makes sense to me.

Anyway, your examples don't prove your point. I never argued that change never took place, I just said it was never as dramatic and violent as elswehere.

The Saxon/Norman invasions etc precede any concept of the British/home nations anyway, the Magna Carta is one of the docuements that allowed for such stability, the Reformation was relatively peaceful compared to what took place on the continent. As for the English Civil War, I put that down as a bit of a fluke due to the unusual situation with the three kingdoms, and even then it was nothing compared to, say, the Thirty Years War and things going on elsewhere. The Glorious Revolution is aka the Bloodless Revolution, quite unique compared in its lack of violence with similar events on the continent. As for the industrial revolution etc, the fact that such dramatic social change did not lead to serious political violence/revolutions is also testament to British stability. How many European countries can say they never devolved into fascist or communist regimes?
