Anyhow here ever tried or are trying dating sites? Are they even any good?

Not personally. But my Dad met his current partner (future second wife) through one. She's a real nice lady. So.... they must be somewhat legit.

My friend met several people on Match.com I think it was. He seemed satisfied with the results. Though I haven't spoken to him in some time.

I saw a discussion about this recently. The consensus seemed to be that OK Cupid was the best of a bad lot. I guess they charge the least and have the most people, or something along those lines. I did all of my dating before the internets, so I have precious little hands-on experience.

Interesting. Since I'm incompetent at picking good girls in college, I'm turning towards online dating sites and don't want to blow my money on them like EHarmony or Match if they scams in the end.

Warman, you are far too young to be using a dating site.

Not because dating sites are full of old people, but because an important part of your youth is getting to grip with girls which can only really be done face-to-face. I don't know what you mean when you say "incompetent at picking good girls" but your young and shouldn't be thinking of picking any one girl yet. Most people on dating sites are looking to enter a solid relationship which will probably lead to marriage, a family and so on so forth.

My advice then is to socialise, talk to the girls at college and get to know some of them better.

Shame that you have to pay for such sites, surprised they don't operate similar to facebook. However, I have heard a lot of disturbing things about them, typically from males towards females, so I should be safe.

What is more disturbing is that I should probably entertain the idea of using such a site. I have very particular about females partners, on both personality and (not so much) looks. Perfect match out would be a female with similar interests to myself who isn't emotionally immature and is intelligent. Unfortunately, every time I come across such a female, they are already taken. Very disappointing.

Perhaps the female should be left-leaning as well, I am unfortunately reminded of a date with a Swedish girl once where I discovered she was a member of the Hitler Jugend. I have some standards which cannot be compromised, no matter how cute the female is, and ended up walking out on her, especially when I probed her about this, and she started coming out with racist remarks which would be Fragony blush.

Anyway, used them a while for some casual dating, was mostly fun. Never had the dreaded fake picture trap, were normal women looking for fun.

When you cut/paste a plain url into the editor, the forum software adds the [url ] tags automatically. Instead of [url ]http://boguswebsite.com[url ], change the tags so that you have [url =http://boguswebsite.com]text to display[/url ]. Spaces added in [] tags to prevent forum formatting.

Get yourself a couple of screw-ups, if you're not naturally talented at that as you self-describe. You can't learn walking without trying to stand up and fall down first. You'll remember your moments of shame for longer than you can imagine yet it will be where it all will start.

It's like breaking a shell and it gets harder as you grow older. I agree that you're too young for dating sites.

Using teh internets to chat with gals is another topic. That's thorougly normal if you feel more comfortable expressing yourself via those means. But paying for dating sites will worsen your situation at that age of yours, me thinks.
