Thread: why hoplites never switch to secondary weapon?
SuperPollo 20:30 09-22-2010
I installed EB for barbarian invasion uning ferromancer's installer. Doing my first campaign with Rome, noticed that neither my polybian principes nor enemy hoplites switch to their swords, even if heavily surrounded. is that a normal behaviour?
I never played before EB or vanilla BI, so sorry if i'm asking something obvious

Welcome!

If they do have a secondary weapon activate it by holding down the Alt key when you click to attack. Your Principes will not have one though as they have javelins.

Don't the Polybian Principes start with a sword?

I assume you mean Camillan Principes. They don't have swords, due to engine limitations. Most Hoplite types don't have swords either, due to peculiar RTW gameplay. Massalian Hoplites and reformed Hoplite (Iphikratean, Indo-Hellenic, and KH Heavy Hoplites) types carry swords as well.

yes i meant camillan. Thanks guys for the answers, so if i understand all units based on the triarii/samnites type "short" spearmen are hardcoded to use only spears.
