    Default SuperC22

I was talking to one of my Kung fu instructors (who is nearly 90 years old) about my tendinitis and my chronic joint illnesses, and he went off on a tangent about how that, my slow metabolism, weak immune system, bad eye sight, high blood pressure, etc were all caused by a lack of Vitamin C. He told me that he used to have tons of health problems until he started taking Vitamin C supplements, and he directed me to some new supplement called SuperC22. He swore up and down that it is a miracle cure for all ailments. Every time someone gets cut, pulls something, breaks something, has a cold, etc, he will tell them to take Vitamin C supplements.
I am not a health major or a doctor (and neither is he), and I do not even have a basic understanding of the effects of Vitamins or how your body uses them.
I was wondering if there is anyone here knowledgeable on the subject who could tell me whether there would be any point in taking such ridiculously high amounts of Vitamin C, or is it just a scam? Some of the claims on the website kinda sound ridiculous to me.

Vitamin C is known as a human magnetic vacuum cleaner that helps the body scoop up and get rid of dangerous toxins, viruses, and bacteria.
Higher optimum levels of Vitamin C are recommended to be somewhere between 4,000 to 6,000 mg a day.
I guess this is the one I am most concerned with.
When you take Super C22™ you will have more energy, feel less pain and help ease stress as Vitamin C is a well known anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant.
Has anyone here taken it or something like it? If so, has it made you superhuman yet?

Heh. Your issues probably are dietary. But, supplements usually aren't the solution. Fixing your diet is. A slow metabolism is often the result of an imbalanced intake of oils, too many hard starchy fats and not enough omega 3 and 6. Booze and salt intake cause high blood pressure, (obvious). It's likely to be your diet as a whole, not an individual part of it.

lol, well I don't drink. What I was really asking is is there really evidence out there that large amounts of Vitamin C will help with tendinitis or other joint ailments (as well as giving you unlimited energy :P).

Drinking in moderation (1 drink/day on average) can help your health. And a couple of miles daily running is always good.

As for vitamin C - I haven't heard any evidence for those fantastic claims. I do take a vitamin C when I feel sick, and it sometimes seems to help.

A while ago I bought a big, thick book on nutrition. It says that vitamin supplements are a waste of money and can even be bad for your health. Vitamin C doesn't have any special properties that allow it to prevent colds, cure broken bones, etc. If you take too much vitamin C it can produce diarrhea, cause nutritional imbalances, and deprive tissues of oxygen.

You have tendinits and pain in your joints because you're overweight.

90% of the vitamins in the supplement don't even get taken up by the body. A very inefficient process.

Though, it is good to top-up if you got money to burn.

Yes, from what I know, above a certain level, vitamin C is simply filtered out in your kidneys and ends up you know how...

Smokers need to absorb higher levels as smoking reduces the level of Vitamen C in the body.

Eating a kiwi or orange a day gives you almost twice the daily Recommended Nutritional Contribution so adding a supplement should not be necessary.

The human body is not meant for the sports we push it through. Now that's not to say you shouldn't do them but there is a reason why people don't last very long. High energy high impact sports will break you and this exponentially increases when you are overweight.

This has nothing to do with vitamin consumption and certianly NOTHING to do with Vitamin C. Which you will get enough of if you eat an orange.

Vuk can do 3 things to lessen his pain
    -R.I.C.E. religously
-Fish Oil, load up on it
    -Lose some weight

This instructor is probably a great kung fu guy but he knows nothing about how to heal a body.

    Weight issues.

Vuk, eastern "medicine" is 99.999% total bullcrap. If it were legit, it would easily pass in double-blinded peer reviewed studies. But it doesn't, because it's crap. Seriously, they think that dead, fungus-covered caterpillars are a cure-all for everything from colds to impotence. The 5 elements, meridians, chi, all that stuff is related to eastern medicine and it's nonsense and will end up doing you far more harm than good if you actually buy into it. Get yo'self healthy and see a real doctor if you have some significant issues that are causing you pain.

Edit - For some clarity. "Homeopath" is a western concept largely based on eastern medical principles. What Vuk described sounds a lot like eastern medicine mixed in with some western style homeopathy.
