*Sigh* I knew piddling about with my EB game wasn't a good idea... Well, after having installed the Alexander engine modification (see the qoute below for what exactly I did)...

    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...1-ALEXANDER-EB

Well, I seem to have sucessfully installed the Alexander engine files... I copied the "Data" folder you provided and pasted it inside my EB folder (merging the new data folder with the old one and telling the computer to "copy and replace" all duplicated files) and changed the target of my EB application to read, "C:\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-ALX.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -nm -noalexander" and it seems to be working (EB starts up with the little "Alexander" logo at the problem and a new campaign starts without a hitch), but I still have to wonder wether or not it's working perfectly... Did I at least install the thing correctly, though?
...and then temporarily applying the three files in the "mp game edu backup" folder so I could run a couple of experiments with cavalry charges in custom battles before chaging them back to the single player versions, I've now started a new Sweboz game only to discover that some of the letters with accent marks are missing from the character trait scrolls, so now I'm seeing things like "Somn?n?m" on my FMs, which I fear will, in addition to being asthetically unappealing, also be negatively affecting the actual game in subtle ways (such as, perhaps, the game failing to take into account the character's linage when calculating traits due to the missing letters). I therefore ask, is there any way to rectify this without completely reinstalling EB?

I know from Maksimus that this problem is fixed in his EAM modification, either way, it won't harm your game in a way I can think about.
Keep a clean version of EB as a backup, will save you much time....

Well, if it's a known (and harmless) issue with the Alex.exe engine mod, that's fine... Shame he hasn't fixed it in the engine mod, as I am not, as yet, interested in playing submods that actually substantially change the nature of EB, but I suppose, then, if I want to play Sweboz I'll just have to put up with it (or revert to RTW.exe).

The bug is caused by saving the file in the wrong character encoding. Instead of using UTF-16LE (Unicode/UTF-16) someone has been using Windows' version of ANSI. That doesn't work.

The only way to fix it is start with a clean version of the EB 1.1 file then manually add in whatever additional descriptions/fixes are required to make it work with ALX.

I have written small program for trimming the offending header from the start of the file. If someone would like me to post the code (in C++) then ask.
