Every campaign gets CTD-ridden after a couple years
I'm having this annoying problem that any campaign I play gets really CTD-ridden after some years. Sometimes after I've blitzed a couple settlements, or sometimes only after I'm well established after like 20 years.
I've already increased the amount of RAM RTW can handle with CFF Explorer and always wait ~30 seconds before entering and leaving battle. These fixes work fine for me for a while but only for a while. So time for another reinstall?
Here's my Validation results if something should be wrong, but I didn't find anything curious.
Re: Every campaign gets CTD-ridden after a couple years
Are you by chance using a (illegal) no-CD crack? Your Rome-TW.exe is found changed by the validation tool.
Keep multiple saves, so you can revert back easily if a crash is repeatable.
EB pushes the engine of RTW over its designed limits, therefore non-repeatable crashes are more common as in Vanilla. On which occasions do you receive CTD's?
Did you read the tips mentioned about crashes here?
Re: Every campaign gets CTD-ridden after a couple years
I crash while entering and leaving battle map, for the beginning of the game the 20-30 second wait helps but after some time it has no effect.
And no, no crack in use. As I said I modified the file with CFF Explorer to be able to use >2GB RAM so that might cause the message. I'm also using an image I've burned from the original DVD because the really old DVD has been scratched to an almost unplayable condition. The beforementioned has never caused my games to be unstable, so I don't think it's the reason for this.
And yeah, I'll try that soundsystem change. Already keeping multiple saves and it isn't really helping. I guess I also could try installing it on an more high-end PC, this semi-gaming laptop might not be powerful enough to run the game stable with only 2GB RAM.
Re: Every campaign gets CTD-ridden after a couple years
2 GB of RAM are enough for EB, check the main menu if the right version (1.2) is shown, if not you have installed 1.2 into a wrong location, remember 1.2 is not save-game compatible and include the fixes for 1.2.
Don't keep playing EB more than 2 hours at one time, restart the game after this amount will help to get over the memory leak of RTW. If you have access to BI, changing to it (using Ferromancers installer in the mini-mod section of this forum), will furthermore increase the stability of the game.
