Thread: Cavalry not lowering spears during charges

Default Cavalry not lowering spears during charges

In my latest version of EB cavalry who use under handed spears aren't lowering them during charges.

They charge with the spears on their shoulders, then about a second after contact they lower them and start stabbing. I haven't been able to get them lower spears no matter what I've tried.

    What's wrong?

But how can those cavalrymen be "underhanded" if they hold their spears over the shoulder in the first place? Are you sure you aren´t refering to the medium "overhand" spear cavalry like Greek Hippies?

Make sure they have sufficient room to charge and also ensure that they start the charge facing the enemy instead of facing the opposite way.

now this is a topic i can comtribute to:

    Cavalry rule book:

Face the right way (As mentionel)
    Have lots of space
    dont fight in forrests
dont use exausted cav, they will not reach the same speed as fresh ones
charging uphill is not very effective
heavy cav can charge in the front, medium is semi restricted to the flank and rear, Light is for rear and chasing down routers
Lots of cavalry has a very potent secondary weapon for melee combat
Unsupported cavalry charges are useually not a good idear, unless youre charging opposing cavalry

    Any questions :P

(this is written with cuts on my fingers so, there might be mis-spells)

It -is- an obscenely large charge distance....

Sometimes if you do get a proper charge off with all your units lines up and in formation, they still won't lower their spears. The most reliable way I've seen to get a charge is to run them in, and then hit 'r' when they are in charging distance. This puts them out of run, into walk, and the combat AI will make them lower their lance. This is because running doesn't seem to reliably trip the lower lance AI routine while walking does.
Fighting isn't about winning, it's about depriving your enemy of all options except to lose.

It's more of a problem only if your cav are fresh. They'll still lower their lances, but they'll be fully lowered RIGHT before you strike the enemy. They're THAT good, ahaha!

If you are super gosu, you can charge a unit into the horses before they lower their lances and totally screw up the charge...

LOL happens all the time online, but super gosu opponents in turn walk their horses at the last moments so they get the lances lowered anyways, haha.
