    Talking Help against Saka Rauka

    Hey lads

I've just started a Baktria Campaign (Cant stop playing EB)
And, it started out pretty bad, i went the wrong way: north instead of south east

Now ive restarted and i have taken the Indus river and the territorys i need from Arche Seleukia

Defences at the AS front are at Maginot Line level and im preparing on the attack of Pahlava and Saka Rauka

Now thats where i need you guts help, im great with horsearchers, but agaist them:

This is my strategy against the Saka

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

My army: 4 Dåhå riders, 2 Hellenic spearmen, 7-8 Persian Spear Archers

My tactic is to move the Dåhå riders to the flank to draw fire while i use my Spear Archers to kill them

Its not too bad a strategy except I wouldn't draw fire with your lightly armored Dahae HA's. Thats a waste of them. If you have the Baktrian SuperCats, then by all means use those to soak up arrow fire. If you don't, I recommend using the Persian Archer Spearmen or units like Akontistai in loose formation out in front of the rest of your army. Massing Persian Archer Spearmen is a good look, thats what I used mainly against Pahlava and Saka as the AS. However, I would bring an Eastern Slinger unit or two for those special jobs, mainly to target heavily armored enemy generals units which archers do poorly against. Also, recruit 1 or 2 Prodromoi if you can afford it to catch the occasional stubborn general so that your infantry or General's Bodyguard can catch them.

And yes, fighting Pahlava, Sauromatae, and Saka is a pain in the rear.

Whenever possible try to make the Saka attack you so they are aggressive on the battlefield, allowing you to dictate where the actual arrow trading takes place and take the higher ground.

We had also some problems with the Saka, especially with their hard generals. It was very tough to pwn them, maybe some hints in this thread may help: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...ral&highlight=

That might sound too well known, and, since you are familiar with HA tactics, you´d probably know that, but all you need is your own HA army performin cantabrian circle on the battlefield against their HA, and some ap, fast moving medium cavalry, to finish off the enemy warlord(s). You´d suffer very little causalities, while your experienced HA can even kill some noble HA, with, say, about 5-7 exp. Slingers might help, if you lack medium cav, but i allways manage to decimate my own bodyguards with them, somehow^^
Well, if you do not want to fight this way, i´ve got none of the good advices for you, because i hat fighting HA with infantry as hell.

good plan overall; I can only recommend what others here have already said. but I do have to say: if you want to be absolutely safe from the Saka, I suggest you hide behind your walls, and pelt them with archers. once decimated, you can counterattack their towns.

I always build stone walls on my frontier that faces saka with pahlavs. They are very poor on assaulting stone walls.
