Mods: mixing sometimes work, sometimes not.
A modded startpos file using default factions/units/buildings (mod A), will work with a 'basic' modded Unitstat (like better morale, better archers or spears; mod B). But a startpos file using new units, won't work (not even show up) with a 'basic' stat.
It's not easy for a modauthor to claim that his mod will work with other mods, as he doesn't know what's in the other mod.
I think that your 'error' is just the message that the game did not found CrusaderGendarmes in the unitstat, but it's listed in DeadPage.coords. It should be possible to ignore the message and continue. I don't know about your friends.
This may be a tip for you. TW games work (just like most games) without being included in the register. If your harddisk permits: copy the entire MTW folder and its contents to a new place (about 2.4 gig). Keep the original install for standard games and/or quick restore and use the copy to install and play mods. You can replace the mod copy if you want to try a new mod.
It is a pity, that MTW does not allow multiple mods in their own subdirectory in MTW (like UT and Quake3 do).
VI will improve things: it will add 10 custom BIF folders and the startpos files will be linked with stats in a subdirectory (no need to swap those around). It wouldn't surprise me if VI would offer even more.
