    Default Back in the game

So, it's been awhile since I really got into a total war game... probably not since Medieval I. I piddled around a bit with Med II when it came out, and started countless campaigns that I never really played anywhere near completion. Eventually, I just lost interest and had other things to deal with.

I also bought Empire sometime last winter, and again started piddling around, playing as mainly as Maratha, but not really getting too far into a campaign. Eventually, I set it aside as my interest faded, and my time grew abundant.

However, recently I once again picked up my copy of empire, and started a new campaign as the French, which I am rather thoroughly enjoying. Though certainly there is some clunkiness to how the troops respond to your orders, after i got through my initial forehead slaps, I've really gotten into my game.

Anyway, it's been awhile since I both posted much here and played the game, so I though I might as well share.

There's a lot of hostility against ETW because of how long it took for the developers to somewhat reach the game's potential but after the last patch it's really a great game.
You should try the darthmod for added fun.

Also good to have you back, I remember you from the MTW threads.

I too just started playing it recently and also as the French.

It's a genuinely good game and while I'm a little disappointed that there are very few conversations left in this forum to be had about it, everyone having moved on, I'm glad I waited until it was fully patched and largely functional before trying it out.

This is good to know. I'll have to give this game another chance someday.

I didn’t play for months after it arrived. It needed too much work.

Empire is in much better shape now than it was. CA stayed with it.

I find that I tend to be a gamer who picks up a game after the initial hoopla has passed, which is a double edged sword:

On one hand, the game is generally fully realized by the developers at that point, and I don't have to deal with all the bugs and twitches that come with something fresh out the oven.

But on the other hand, it becomes more difficult to have a conversation on the game with other players, as most have moved on.

One reason I enjoyed MTW was because the conversation on the game was still going strong years later. Kind of makes me sad that it's not the same here. Now I'm starting to really get into the strategies and subtleties of the experience, but it seems the conversation is for the most part dead.
