My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.
I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.
It will come back. It always does.

The secret to happiness is contentment. So if you can't get something, then try not to want it, and you'll be happy.

Compare unhappiness to the times you were truly happy, not that bad a deal, you are never really sad or really happy. Also a bit much to ask to be happy all the time. happens.

Stop thinking, it's that simple. I used to get far too much into thinking for my own good, now I just stop myself if I catch myself doing it. I swear learning to turn your brain off is the key to hapiness.
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.

I find that sometimes I am happy being sad. Perhaps this is just self-loathing or the subconcious pleasure in feeling sorry for yourself. What is truly needed to make oneself happy is to find a reason, it need not be great, perhaps waking up in the morning or brushing ones teeth. Ah, a cold winters sunrise and fresh breath, I am so happy this moment!

I hate life. Let me hate it with you.
Really, life is great when you don't let the gravity of pessimism pull you down. Everybody's life sucks, but small things can lift you up if you apreciate them. Anything random, the smile of a nice girl or a friendly conversation when paying your bread. Mankind doesn't exist to be happy, just go with the flow and pick up the crumbs.

... is overrated. It doesn't persist, and makes apparent it's opposite. Same with it's opposite. The fulcrum is contentment.
