Arriving first is the Roman envoy. At the head is an aged veteran soldier, the scars of many battles layered heavy upon his face. A prominent scar across his left eye, tall stature, and gleaming Imperial armor gave the man an imposing presence. Speaking in a deep, but surprisingly gentle voice, he addressed the Papal gathering,
“It is my honor to announce that the Eastern Roman Empire formally accepts the Pope’s invitation. We also hope that this can be the first step to once again uniting the Christians of the East and West, and if god sees fit, those of all faiths.”
The Roman bows to the Pope before continuing,
“My name is Romulus, and I shall be the voice and ears of the Emperor in these halls. My first announcement is that we have joined with our brothers in Novgorod to form the Roman Orthodox Empire, with the grand throne of the Empire remaining in Constantinople. The Empire's doors are open to diplomats of all nations, both neighbors and beyond. As a final note, I must warn that access to and from the Black Sea is highly restricted, and those without the proper authorization shall not be allowed passage.”
Gathering his envoy, Romulus takes a seat.
