A bearded, robed Arab arrives at court. His black silk turban is large and unwieldy and he is slightly unbalanced as he walks as a result. He squints suspciously at those already gathered before declaring
As-salaamu 'alaykum. I am Djibril Al-Mahdi and I come before you this day, under the eyes of mighty Allah, to proclaim the birth of the Caliphate in the east. The holy Khalifa in Cairo has received the submission of our brothers in faith in Khwarezm in the far east and peace and sharia law now rules over our joint domains.
We wish to live in peace and harmony with all men of the book, particularly our neighbours to the north in Jerusalem with whom we have quarrelled in the past. Let us put old grievances aside for the glory of our respective peoples!
