    Default My own little miracle

It is not everyday that a miracle happens to you, but today one happened to me. I have not gotten sleep in about 43 hours, and have been near the point of total exhaustion for a while. I unfortunately could not avoid going to school today (research paper was due, and he does not allow emails). After class as I was driving back home I started nodding off a bit, so I turned the defrost off and cracked the windows hoping that it would keep me awake. It seemed to be working until everything went black, and next thing I knew I was on the shoulder of the road, drifting toward the ditch. I quickly pulled away, and then felt myself slipping into sleep again and I panicked. I was thinking, "Oh crap, I had better pull over to the side of the road before I crash", but my vision was getting hazy, and I could see the car drifting into the center line, but could not do anything about it.

When I woke up I was in my car, on the side of the road, with my flashers on...an hour later.

The last think I remember was drifting into the other lane, and when I woke up I was perfectly parked on the shoulder of the road not 100 yards away. Even more miraculous than that, I did not freeze to death with the windows open (I was wearing just a light long sleeve button down and jeans, no coat or gloves) and a cop did not come by and nab me. The only negative consequence is that my car is considerably lower on fuel. :P

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

Heh, your other thread about your end of term coursework sprung to my mind as well. Can't you get a train in if you are that bad, you could easily have killed yourself/someone else...

Indeed, it was a miracle for everyone that happened to be driving near you as well.

    That you could have avoided.

That's a stupid risk, man. Buy a red bull or if that doesn't work sleep in your car at school or something.

I'm really glad you and everyone else on the road are alright, but I also hope you learn from this and never do it again.

Indeed. Driving tired, especially that tired, and you might as well be wasted drunk for all the mental capacity that you've got. Congrats on getting out of it all unharmed.
It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.

That reminds me of a ceratin view on how to treat people who deliberately endanger others (like drunk drivers).

Glad you are ok, but like others said you shouldn't drive when you are tired, all volume is toned down you think slower. Sort out your sleeping issues it can completily tear you down

lol, I wouldn't put it past you Ser.
As I said, I did not think I was that tired. I wouldn't have driven if I knew. When I got out of class I was feeling really refreshed, it was not until I was in the car driving that I started feeling like that, and as soon as I realized, I went to pull over. I was not deliberately endangering myself or others.
I knew I was tired, but I didn't know that I was THAT tired.

When you are awake for long, you start feeling sleepy. When you don't give in to that, you'll feel fresh again (after a while). The body is running on reserves and it's probably also some mental thing. At some point the body will totally collapse though and will go into sleepy mode.
