I am thinking about teh constructions of an online battle-scenario where u have to push an enemy from a row of maps.

    Lets say 3 maps like
    Mikata - Totomi - Ise
    each side 5000 koku

The battle starts in the middle
the winner pushes the other player to the other map.
The winner gets 5000 koku plus the koku-value of his army left. And may just spend this kokus to the same armyunits as he played in the middle map.
The loser gets 5000 koku plus the koku-value of his army left. And may just spend this kokus to the same armyunits as he played in the middle map.

Until the defending player of his last map is pushed off.
A similar system is used Close Combat. As u noticed i am searching for an easy system where the player is confronted with the results of earlier battles.

But i am sure u all will come up with better systems....... !

I don't understand about the part you said the winner would get 5000kokus and the looser get 5000kokus. Quiet a bit confusing.

Means you get to reinforce your army with an additional 5000Koku + the value of the remainder of your last army. Could hurt if you lost a lot pushing the guy off a hill. But it would likely mean to win the first is to win the second, specially if you had cav to trash the other's retreating army.

Shai Hulud, if I have well understand what Magyar describes, with a flat middle map to start surrounded by to hilly maps, when you win the defender will be on a hill with less kokus than the Att and so on...
I find that is a great idea Magyar and a good alternative to match/rematch
The only problem to solve is to get the koku value of the remaining army. Do you plan to use the log files Magyar ? Or perhaps did I miss some infos on the battle result screen...
But let's try it and perhaps some other issues will arise.

hmm not a bad idea there magy nice combanation to the online battles. if you get beat on the frist map and most of your troops are killed well the next map you sould be defending so even thou you have less koku you should still have a good chance to push your way back to the middle ground.

I have an interesting idea that combines what Magyar mentions, an online tournament of sorts, and the online campaign we have all been so desperately wanting.

Please bear with me on this, as it just came to me and will need to be worked.

Why not have CA/DT put up a map of all the provinces (similar to the league of honor) and assign all true clans(I would say a minimum of 5 different members) a random province as their home base. The remainder of the provinces would be Ronin (RA would also have a starting province and function as a clan). For competitive clan play they would have to fight across the various provinces of Japan until one clan emerged victorious as Shogun of all Japan. Clans could only fight each other if they had provinces bordering each other on the map. Clans seeking to expand their holdings against the Ronin, would fight for that particular province against any of the online Ronin. Campaign battles would have to be announced in the foyer prior to taking place. Clan Daimyo's (or appointed representative) would have to track the province locations of their members. Clans without generals in a contested province would lose that province. (This is why I suggest a minimum of 5 members in a clan. Rarely would a frontline consist of more than 5 provinces!) In addition, there could be more than one general in a province resulting in 2x2 battles or greater. Provinces not on the front line would not need to be garrisoned, and all battles would be fought with a set koku value, as is the case in Tournament play.

The advantage is that this could be an
on-going "Tournament" that would not require much in terms of work. Alliances could be forged between clans, and all the diplomacy that we would like to see can actually happen!

This can happen people!!!!!!!!! All it would take is for someone (hint hint CA/DT) to step up to the plate and take responsibility for managing the process and updating the map! The best part is we don't have to worry about whether or not someone drops out (clans that die out will simply revert to Ronin), or if someone wants to join in (assuming they have met the minimum size criteria, any new clan can be assigned a Ronin Territory to start out in).

I think we have the framework of something beautiful here People!!!!!! Let's make this happen.

yeah great idea i was thinking about that possibility only yesterday.

the daimyo of each clan gets allocated a set amount of koku and distributes it 2 his generals (giving the most 2 his most trusted gens!!!)

all it would need is good organisation and a map!!!! that can b updated regulary!!!!

DAMM i'm starting 2 get excited!

    Magyar,

This is a superb, realistic thing.

If someone could make it reality, it would be better.

Good stuff! I really like Magyar Khan's idea. A long term battle can go back and forth severl times.

Obake's idea seems like a good one too, but there were always management problems whenever someone gets these ideas. Things like time schedules (when does a Pacific Rim clan have the time of day to fight a European clan?) and troop movements can be tricky. Good luck in getting CA/DT involved - they seem to have other things on the mind right now - like 1.13 and TW2. I'd kinda like to see those two more than an online campaign. Then again, I'm mostly an SP player, anyway, so what do I know?

I'm all in favour of the idea. This is the kind of common sense thinking that we need more of! I must say that after the Tourney I realised just how much more fun it is to play for a reason, rather than simply upping the honour count, which is a hazardous enterprise once you get over 120 honour.

The problem is that some means of managing the 'campaign'. From what I know, this would have to come from EA/Dreamtime. They are after all in the perfect position, with a server that logs all online battles. But whether they will do it, or more importantly whether they'll do it before everyone stops playing the game, is open to question.

Certainly the league of honour gives the impression that they're thinking along the lines of a campaign structure.

It depends on whether we want to use the existing facilities of EA's server. In other words all battles are fought through EA/Play and are logged by the server, which automatically updates the map to incorporate the results. However, this would require an upgrade to the server, which might take a while (remember how long it took to reset the rankings?).

Of course, we don't need to use that method. The Fearful Ways tourney used friendly games and the results were submitted manually by the players. I suppose we need to decide whether this is an acceptible way to run an online campaign.

There are, of course, other options. I've been thinking about these for a little while and I know they are possible.

    1) Implement our own server.
It could be done, but it would take a while. But once it is done, the possibilities are endless.

    2) Use a log-file submission system.
After a battle, the players submit their log files either to a moderator or to a web-based application (CGI/ASP script) which could then update the map.

With any of these solutions, you do have the beginnings of an online campaign.

I must point out that we have so far ignored the thornier issues of multiplayer campaigning. I won't re-cap them for you now since there have been plenty of discussion of this in the past, but some of these issues will still need to be addressed.

OK people, let's keep this as simple as absolutely possible and then build on it from there! For the first round on this, I'm thinking, no castles, no armor or unit limitations and no koku distribution by Daimyo (think Tournament guys). The only difference would be that there is a map that governs clan/Ronin holdings and there could potentially be up to 60 clans involved!

Each week could represent a season, in other words, any battles occurring during a particular week would all occur during summer or winter and so on.

I like everyone's ideas (SOL, O4B) and we can work them in if this concept has merit.

Banzai, in response to your question (which is VERY valid) I envision that there would be a set amount of time, following the announcement that a clan was attacking a province for the owner of that province to have someone show up to defend (24 hours or so would be my guess).
Like I said earlier, this is still very rudimentary, but I don't think there needs to be an issue with troop movement. Battles would be fought online with a set koku amount as they are in tournaments! Clans would have Taisho in various provinces, either defending or attacking that would have to be tracked, but that is about it!

Let's keep this going! I think it could work.

Rob, we posted pretty much simultaeneously, so no worries!

I want to get started on it ASAP. I'm going to put together an E-mail for Richie and ask for his input and the willingness of the CA/DT team to support us in this endeavor. In a worst case scenario, we should set up a campaign Web-site where the map could be displayed, province challenges issued and battle results/log files (if we go that route) posted!

Again, the whole key to this working is to keep it as simple as possible! My guess is that we would also need to have a campaign chat room to keep people updated as well as to ensure that the general online population does not get over-burdened with the clashing of our Katana's!

I am so excited by the prospect of this coming together I could just ......

My main reason for wanting CA/DT to manage this process is to ensure impartiality (and web space). With the number of Clans/Ronin that I anticipate wanting to take part, it is going to require a large investment to manage this. And what better way can anyone think of to get CA/DT to become more involved in supporting this online community?

Back on the community forum I posted about an on-line Shogun title, meaning a player had fought in, and won, on every province (60 I believe). Once accomplished the player would have his name added to a sort of "Hall of Fame".

LOL, just like me to think in terms of the individual NOT the clan (Must be my occidental way of thinking).

Would it be too much to ask for Fearful Ways to have Shinano? Or do you guys want another province?

My initial thought Ship had been that the Clans would be assigned random starting provinces. I've also been giving this some additional thought, but I'm gonna save it for a new thread.

I seem to have usurped the original intent of Magyar's thread and for that I humbly apologize.

I now return you to your originally scheduled discussion.

This was actually a tough call for me Rob since it incorporated the essence of both forums. Yes we are talking about Clan's and clan recruitment along with Tournament style play. But what made the decision for me on where to go was the fact that this really is about the online campaign! And where else should that go but in General discussion?

It was a judgement call on my part, but given the communities interest in the online campaign, I decided to go where it would get the most attention and input.

    So there!

    lol
