My best friend is female, and I hang round with and talk to quite a few of them so I don't really have any problems with girls.
I do remember reaching a low point last year though, where I spent the latter half of 2009 and the first half of 2010 being almost purely with guys, but now I talk to girls much more and all's good.

Hey, you're missing all the fun. Some of my best memories are with girls (both as just friends as well as the more romantic kind).

No, and I'm pretty neutral about my lack of success. For one, I haven't tried very hard, but then I'm not desperate either, so meh.
That totally makes sense if the girl in question is single, but what if she already has a long-distance boyfriend she's had for a year or more? I'm guessing there's no point in thinking there's ever going to be a chance, but pretty much every girl at my college who I've met has a boyfriend back home (Apart from the girl who made one here during Fresher's).
