My battle map lags.....

I play medieval 2 on my laptop and it works fine when i do things on the big world map, but when i try to command a battle most of the time it lags on me, most of the time so bad that i cant play. Any clue why this happens? thanks.

I play on my laptop which is 4 years old. I need to switch the detail down a bit but it hardly effects the game. Go and change your custom video settings - don't use the recommended settings, dumb them down a bit.
