I didnt like the 200 population max. This is further aggravated by the fact that one cannon was something like 4-6 pop, which made the game absurd. There were only skirmishes, no big battles since the forces were so small that it was decided within 5 minutes.

    hmm

valid reasons i guess... bu battles can take really long if the game lasts. but i like how people who can micro their units really well can win vs bigger armies

Haven't played it for years now. It brings back memories you know...of the original AOE. I didn't even know that many people played it online still.

I always preferred empire earth over the AoE series. Too bad i went camping one year and came back and the community was D.E.D. Dead

Yeah, ever since empire earth 3 the community died.
But I thought EE2 was decent, but EE1 was the best.

I could never get any of them to run...

AoE2 was the last good AoE.

AoE2 was amazing. So was AoE1. I still remember typing in "photon men" and getting these awesome little troopers that just rocked.

Much agreement. I dont know what they did with teh newer ones, but it just wasnt...right. 3? I got it, played it once, and put it up on the shelf. 2? Play it all the time, even if the grass looks wierd and the colours are all screwed up. 1? Looks perfect, plays perfect, it is my child now.

What didnt run? I am a bit confused on this

Well i dont know if you ever saw the screenshots or art for it, but they were planning on doing AoE up to "future"

What i mean is AoE 4 was 20th century and AoE 5 is future. Microsoft nipped that in the bud though.

I remember reading somewhere that the future AoE (the rumours about which started due to some artwork or something in AoE 3 special edition or the like) was actually a reference to Halo Wars, which the studio eventually released before closing down.

those are fake screenies. there is no aoe4 coming soon and the best next thing is called Age of Empires Online and is some kind of roleplaying game with a cartoony look... totally lame.

Ensemble Studios is the biggest mismanagement I have seen in the past 3 years. There was no reason for Microsoft to get rid of it when it excelled at doing what it did. Idiots.
