There are many mods to choose from for this game. I was a stalwart and proud vanilla player, but after many years I quest for something...more. Something better. Do you folks have any recommendations?

I find most mods don't quite capture my interest as much as though they give historical correctness they can lose my interest gameplay wise, however there are lots of smaller mods like the one specifically designed for playing as thrace which I played for a bit which are good for making the game fresher for you so I recommend those

Well, if you have Alexander, I would recommend Lord of the Rings - Total War. While it is way too easy I love the atmosphere and the scripting.

Extended Greek Mod is a nice mod with lots of (AOR)units, but still kinda has the vanilla feeling.

I am surprised that no one haven't mentioned Europa Barbarorum. It's basically the only mod I play these days.
