The limit is there because the unit list, where you can chose your soldiers, can only show a certain number of units, but because of the vast amount of regionals there's not enough place for all of them and many aren't shown. For most factions there are a lot of slots left so you can easily make more available.
Any idea what the hard limit for the display is?
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)
Heirs to Lysimachos - an EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR with semi-historical houserules (now ceased)
    Philetairos' Gift - a second EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR

No, but wouldn't it be easier to start EB Singleplayer, click on custom battle and count it, then to ask in this thread?

I think the number of units available for custom battles are 100. I could be wrong though.

I suppose you already know this, but the full faction rosters can be found in EB multiplayer mode, where (I think, I'm not sure) you can do singleplayer custom battles.

As for the roster in singleplayer mode, I don't know

The roster in my multiplayer game has a handful more units, not the full ones. As well as random units like Celto-Germanic cavalry in everyone's roster.

There are 112 cards, but it only displays 100 units.

The issue appears to be that it goes through the EDU in order and thus fills up what you can see with all sorts of junk before it reaches core units for some factions. So I need to go through adding no_custom for a bunch of Germanic and other troops who are also mercs to get the ones I want to appear.

Or you can just use multiplayer?
