    Darkness.

    Silence.

In the deep depths of space, there is no light. There are no sounds. It is an eerie sort of quiet, a nothingness that chills to the bone and fills one with despair. An eternity could be spent in such a state without interaction with any other living being.

And it this feeling of emptiness, which the Hunter had been so accustomed to in short durations, that now occupied every fiber of her being. That is, until it began.

    Suddenly, blinding light.

A surge of warmth. Power. Life. Existence.

But despite the surge of energy, the Hunter could not shake the feeling of a shadow, hovering over her mind and watching her thoughts. It was ever present, and seemed imposing until it was concentrated upon, after which it would dissipate and reform in another spot. But the Hunter did not mind the Presence, because the Presence told her not to mind it. The Presence was what gave her life, and strength, and the Hunter liked such familiar feelings, so long deprived of them.

The Hunter slowly opened her eyes, which glowed an unnatural red.

All was blurry at first, and she saw only a large silhouette against the bright light, towering over her.

    “BWAHAHAHAHAR!”

Welcome, everyone. This is the third large game in my Council of Villains series, entitled “A State of Corruption”.

I’m not going to give too many details about the game; a large part of it is you figuring it out as you go along. You might think of this game as something of a cross between Sigurd’s Star Wars and TinCow’s Rubicon, but it’s more nuanced than that. I mention Sigurd’s Star Wars and not ATPG’s sequel to the game, because there is a power-up system, but it is much more simplified and nowhere near as complicated as Fall of the Order’s.

Basically, you can think of there being two towns, two mafias, and perhaps a few who don’t fit into any of those categories. And everyone will have the ability to gain powers both offensive and defensive- though it is never guaranteed.

As for the story, I won’t say a word on what’s come. It will all become clear in time. However, since the last Council of Villains game was so long ago, I’ve prepared a refresher in the form of a flowchart for the events of the past few games:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

If you want the full story, I encourage you to take a look at the game threads themselves:

    The Council of Villains
    The Missing Link
    The Koopa Troop

The rules are fairly simple; standard affair for mafia games.
-During the day, you vote for someone to be lynched, using the format Vote: Chaotix. If you want to change your vote, use Unvote: Chaotix first or else your original vote will be the one counted.
-You may NOT edit your vote out of a post. You may edit a post with a vote in it so long as the edit does not affect the vote.
-You may Vote: Abstain to show you are present but wish to refrain from voting.
-Vote: No Lynch is NOT allowed.
-Dead players can participate, but may NOT vote or reveal previous night actions or sensitive information they knew before their death.
    -Private communications are allowed.
-Quicktopics, chatrooms, etc. are NOT allowed unless given express permission by the host.
-Dead players cannot communicate privately unless given express permission by the host.
-You may quote PMs from other players, as they can be forged. You may not post screenshots, chatlogs, etc.
-You may NOT quote PMs from the host or your role PM, unless given express permission by the host.
-You must PM all night actions to the host personally.
-If you have multiple defenses, you must choose one and PM that to the host; otherwise your defense will be chosen randomly.
-Clarifications to the rules will be posted by the host if perceived to be unclear. If you are unsure or think I might have missed something, please don’t be afraid to ask questions!

I am looking for at least 35 players to sign up. I would prefer to have 40 to 45 if possible. The game will most likely begin after the end of Star Wars: Fall of the Order. Let’s go!

    Night 0

The Galactic Federation Starship Olympus coasted through space at a leisurely pace. It was headed for a planet controlled by the Space Pirates, who had recently resurged, probably due to the Council of Villains event and the empowering of their leader, Ridley, that came with it. The spacecraft was not moving quickly, however, because the forces on board were still being trained.

The Inter-dimensional Federation of Heroes, or IDFH, had established something of an uneasy alliance with the GF Marines. With a common foe in Ridley, both sides saw the wisdom in an alliance, but so far it had not worked out especially well. The heroes viewed the GF forces as grunts and common troopers, and mostly useless in a fight- and the marines were offended that the heroes would dare to insult them on their own ship. In fact, all the IDFH forces in Dimension 003 Metroid were stationed on the GFS Olympus, except for two who had gone missing a few months previously. And then there was the matter of the GF hiring several bounty hunters to fight for them, many of them former criminals.

It was not the best of situations. And it would soon devolve into something far worse.

A dot appeared on the Olympus’s radar screen. It was a friendly dot, requesting permission to dock. The ship was scanned and immediately recognized as the renowned bounty hunter Samus’s Gunship. The Fleet Admiral Castor Dane was notified and it was granted permission to dock, as was usually the case.

Minutes later, there was chaos. A siren began blaring, red lights came up. A messenger ran immediately to Admiral Dane’s room, shouting:

“Sir! The docking bay is under assault! The entire sector has been wiped out!”

Dane looked concerned and shocked, but not fearful.

“By whom? How is it possible we didn’t detect them coming?”

“I’m not sure, our cameras have been hacked and disabled by some sort of unknown technology. But we’ve received no word from Samus Aran since then, either. She could be harmed or even killed!”

“Perhaps… but there may be a more obvious explanation than that. Send a squad down to find any hostiles and search for survivors.”

    “Yes, sir!”

The messenger hurried off, and Admiral Dane scratched his chin.

    “So it begins…”

Not twenty minutes had passed before the messenger returned. Dane expected news of the docking bay attack, but this was not it.

“Sir! The medical wing has been breached!”

This time, Dane had more of a face that implied he was about to say “are you kidding me?” It only flashed for a moment, but he kept his cool.

    “Details! What’s going on?”

“There are several survivors who managed to escape. They said that there wasn’t even a spacecraft. Just three shadowy figures, and they were all using… using…”

“Using what? Spit it out, man!”

“Phazon! They attacked us with Phazon!”

    “That could only mean…”

“They think it’s the Dark Hunter!”

Dane looked worried now. He was about to dismiss the messenger, but was interrupted by Aurora Unit 242, the organic supercomputer that ran the ship.

“Admiral Dane, I believe you should be seeing this.”

A holo-screen stretched across the wall. On it, what appeared to be a large, metallic dragon was rocketing towards them through space. All of a sudden, a massive crash rocked the entire ship, and the lights dimmed for a moment.

    “What’s going on, 242?”

"The cargo bay has been penetrated and the engines have been destroyed. The Olympus has been rendered incapable of moving."

“We’re stranded… out in Pirate Space.”

    Night 0 Continued, Post #90:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Dane had called for everyone still living on board the ship to meet in the main assembly room.

The numbers of the GF forces and the IDFH forces were about equal, and neither group seemed happy about the other’s presence. Captain Falcon, in charge of the IDFH forces on board the Olympus, was at the center. Dane was not present.

“Now listen up! As you have probably guessed, there are some among us who are not as they seem! They are intruders on this vessel, and they are almost certainly villains. They’re here to kill us all, and we need to find them before they do that.”

A voice shouted from the group of GF marines:

“They’re only here to kill you! Why should we have to be subject to this treatment? If you weren’t on our ship, this never would have happened!”

“I do not believe that the intruders are only here for the IDFH. Word has it that Dark Samus is on board. She has never been on good terms with the Galactic Federation. Further, we have word that Samus, who is both a GF bounty hunter and an IDFH hero, is on board and has gone missing. The GF most certainly has a reason to be involved here.”

For the most part, both groups were quieted. Falcon continued.

“We need to vote on who we believe is most likely to be an intruder. Then the only method to know for sure if they are… is death. I will tally the votes.”

The marines were in an uproar.

“What’s to say you won’t skew the tally in the IDFH ‘s favor, huh? Out to protect your own, I’m sure!”

The IDFH were now starting to take offense. It seemed a fight would begin if Falcon didn’t do something.

“Fine! Admiral Dane will tally the votes today. I will take care of it tomorrow. We will switch off every day. That way, it will be fair. Is that acceptable?”

Both sides seemed to come to an uneasy agreement, for now.

“Good. Then it’s time to vote. Show me your moves!”

And so began the first day of A State of Corruption.

    ----------------------------

The role PMs for all mafia and other essential characters have been sent out. I am still working on the rest and will have those out as soon as possible.

That said, everyone who doesn't have a role PM yet is a basic townie.

I am starting the first round. Anybody can vote, even if you don't have your role PM yet. I will only start counting the 24 hours when I have sent out the last role PM, though.

    Day 1

When the votes were finished on the first day, as promised Admiral Dane stood up and tallied them, then gave the result.

“It seems we have a tied vote between two members of this crew.”

Admiral Dane then looked a bit puzzled, as if he didn’t know what to do next.

“Hrmm… I didn’t expect there to be a tie. There’s no protocol for what happens after a tie.”

The inhabitants of the GFS Olympus now looked worried. What would Admiral Dane do?

“I think that, since you have named me as director of this process, you must yield to my judgment on this matter. I have not yet decided what must follow; you must allow me time to think. When I have decided, I will announce the procedure and it shall be executed.”

The GF crew looked satisfied with this answer, while the IDFH fighters were less than pleased. There was no telling what Dane’s policy toward the IDFH could be, nor what how this would affect his decision.

    Day 1 Continued

Admiral Dane sat and puzzled over this issue of the tie for a rather frustratingly long time. By the time he had made his decision, nobody really cared what was going to happen, and everyone was tired and grumpy.

There were two fighters who remained incredibly nervous due to their current status, however.

“ATTENTION! I have made my decision. It appears to me that the fairest settlement of this issue is to put both suspects to death!”

There was much clamor amongst the crew, now. Both of them? On the first day?

“Diddy Kong and Professor E. Gadd. You are hereby found guilty of treason towards the GFS Olympus and her crew, and for that crime the only punishment is death. What do you have to say for yourselves?”

The Professor looked resigned to his fate. He looked at the floor.

“Well, I am getting old. I suppose my time was going to come eventually, so here is not a bad place. If it helps you to find the real culprit.”

Diddy Kong, however, being a monkey, could not speak very well. The expression on his face, however revealed everything. Diddy Kong was MAD. He began screaming and pounding the floor with his fists. Suddenly he ran towards the Professor and jumped on his head, and proceeded to claw at his face. The Professor screamed in pain.

    “Somebody stop that monkey!”

But it was too late. Diddy Kong was now standing behind E. Gadd and using him as a shield, while holding him by the neck and holding a gun to his head. A Peanut Popgun, in fact. The monkey screeched something that everyone took to mean, “Nobody move or I’ll shoot!”

Admiral Dane was not amused by the monkey’s antics.

“You are aware that I have ordered both of you to die? You just made my job easier.”

And with that, he pulled out a large Beam Cannon and fired it at the two unlucky heroes. Diddy Kong screamed and jumped out of the way, but the Professor was annihilated by the blast. Diddy Kong was now flying around the room in his Rocketbarrel Jet-Pack, with both Peanut Popguns unholstered. He rained down a barrage of deadly legumes at the crew of the Olympus. Diddy Kong may not have been the one they were looking for, but he wasn’t going down without a fight.

Admiral Dane’s usual grimace held fast to his face. In a surprised display of force, he jumped high into the air and delivered a kick, full force, into Diddy’s face. The frenzied monkey rocketed straight into a wall, and the barrel exploded, leaving him in a crumpled heap of burning fur.

Dane checked the body, and confirmed that all vital signs had terminated. The body of Diddy Kong and what was left of Professor E. Gadd were placed in the Quarantine Bay.

“That concludes today’s business. I hope that these two were the culprits we were looking for, but personally I doubt it. They looked innocent, but highly concerned for their own survival. Everybody should proceed to their night watch positions.”

    Night 1, Post #318:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Night 1

In space, it is impossible to tell when the day ends and night begins, because neither exists. The GF had long been using a standardized 24 hour clock to keep time while on a spaceship. It was hard to get used to, and sometimes soldiers would wander the ship, bored, if they were not tired. Tonight, some would be wandering around for other reasons…

In the central control chamber, Aurora Unit 242 was still active. Being essentially a supercomputer with artificial intelligence, she did not need sleep. 242 was currently watching the ship through the surveillance cameras that were still working, hoping to catch the intruders that way. As she was essential to the maintenance of the GFS Olympus, she was heavily guarded outside the entrance.

The air ducts, however, were not guarded. A small figure dropped out of the air duct and onto the floor of the central control chamber, unnoticed by the Aurora Unit. It made some sort of a signal with its hands, and suddenly the liquid in the tank 242 was suspended in froze. 242’s major functions were stalled, and the figure slipped away into the shadows.

    --------------------------------------------------

The bounty hunter Trace was moving through the narrow passageways of the Olympus, quickly and alertly. He knew he would be in danger, and knew that if he went to sleep, as was suggested of him, he might not wake up the next day. Trace figured the best defense was to be constantly on the move.

He was moving down one narrow corridor when he saw what appeared to be a large orange ball, rolling straight towards him. Curious, he stopped, and aimed his weapon directly at the ball. The ball rolled straight up to him and stopped.

Suddenly, and before he could react, the ball transformed into a figure Trace recognized instantly, and his body shook with fear. The Hunter bashed Trace in the head with her arm cannon, and Trace recoiled, starting to run away. He activated his cloaking device and sprinted towards the end of the hallway, hoping to escape.

The Hunter’s arm cannon began glowing with a pure, white light. She then pointed it forward, and released a charged beam that traveled incredibly fast, striking Trace in the back and disabling his cloaking device. Trace fell to the floor, unable to move due to the painful, burning sensation in his back. The Hunter walked up to his body, stepping on it, and pointed her arm cannon at his head. The Hunter fired.

    -------------------------------------------------------

The engine room was mostly quiet, except for one GF Mechanic who was still awake, trying to get it working again. As long as the engines were down, the Olympus was stranded in Pirate space, and therefore in even more danger than it already was. The Mechanic was hoping to get a head start.

A small creature dropped from the ceiling onto the top of the piece of machinery the Mechanic was working on, making a noise as it landed. Its eyes glowed an unnatural blue color. The Mechanic looked up, seeing the creature, and became alarmed. He tried to get up and run away, but as soon as he made a move, electricity burst from the creature and into the machinery, moving through it and into the wrench that the Mechanic was holding, finally traveling through his body. The small creature continued to electrocute the Mechanic until he was burnt to a crisp, then bounded off through the engine room gleefully.

    -------------------------------------------------------

A shadowy figure walked through the hallways of the guests’ quarters, its heels making a distinctive sound as they struck the metal underneath them. Suddenly it stopped walking, apparently finding the door it was looking for, and opened it silently.

Inside, sleeping in the bed, was a young man clad in white, with the wings of an angel.

The shadowy figure walked up to his bed, waited contemplatively for a moment, then forcefully seized him by the throat and lifted him into the air. He woke up with a jolt, and was instilled with fear by the figure’s red eyes, glowing with malice.

“Time’s up, Kid Icarus. You flew too close to the sun.”

Pit struggled, but could not break his captor’s grip. Its hand was exceedingly cold to the touch, and a chill rapidly spread through his body, until frost formed on his skin. Finally a look of sheer horror fell over his face as he recognized his killer. The same look remained frozen on his face.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Back in the central control room, Aurora Unit 242 was still unable to perform any sort of action or call for help. She was conscious, but paralyzed in her frozen tank.

Suddenly, the doors were blasted open with a loud explosion. 242 could see a dead GF soldier lying by the doorway. Through the doorway walked a figure clad in armor of midnight blue. A dark aura surrounded her, and it was palpable even to the Aurora Unit.

The Dark Hunter lifted its arm cannon. Dark energy began swirling around at its tip as she charged up the beam. 242, frozen, could do nothing to defend herself. The Dark Hunter pointed its gun directly at the Aurora Unit and fired.

The blast of shadowy energy shattered the glass canister and the ice inside of it. The Aurora Unit, with nothing to suspend it, fell to the floor in a large crash, the wires connecting it to the system snapping and sparking. The Dark Hunter’s arm cannon reconfigured itself and fired a missile at 242, and she exploded into fragments of metal, circuitry, and organic tissue.

In the place where Aurora Unit 242 was floating was a small, glowing canister, marked with a symbol. The Dark Hunter walked up to it and touched it. It disappeared, and the Dark Hunter glowed with an unholy light.

With a new power at her fingertips, the Dark Hunter left the room, pleased.

    Day 2, Post #626:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Day 2

It had been another long day on the GFS Olympus. There was much arguing and accusation, and the crew had become even more factionalized between the GF and the IDFH. But in the end, the voting had come to a clear resolution. This time Captain Falcon stepped forward to tally the votes.

When he had finished, a grimace crossed his face. He turned to the assembled crew to read the result.

“Today, you have decided that the impostor among is… the IDFH warrior Isaac, of the Golden Sun dimension. He is accused of being, in reality, the missing IDFH hero Cloud Strife, corrupted by the influence of the Dark Hunter.”

Isaac stepped forward solemnly and silently. The IDFH was in an uproar. They began shouting and protesting vigorously against the accusations against one of their own.

“WHAT? Just because he looks like Cloud, now he’s accused of BEING Cloud? This is ridiculous!”

Captain Falcon tried in earnest to calm down his own comrades.

“Quiet! A vote is a vote. This is what we agreed to do. We did it for great justice!”

He then turned to the suspect.

“Now, Isaac. What do you have to say for yourself?”

    “…”

“Come on! Defend yourself. Show me your case!”

    “…”

Captain Falcon soon realized that Isaac was one of those silent RPG heroes and really didn’t speak a whole lot. He was at a loss for what to do… perhaps this was an admission by non-denial.

“Alright then. Here’s what we’re going to do. I want Isaac locked up in the Quarantine Bay for the rest of this trip.”

Suddenly, a pale-faced GF officer dressed in a lab coat stood up.

    “I… uhhh… I don’t think that’s a very good idea.”

Falcon gave the Quarantine Officer a piercing glare from behind his visor.

“That wasn’t a question. Do it now.”

The GF Quarantine Officer and a few marines brought Isaac down to the Quarantine Bay, near the bottom hull of the ship. The Officer dismissed the soldiers before they could see the blue glow emanating from behind the cold steel door. The Officer unlocked and opened the door, and Isaac walked willingly inside. Then the door was carefully locked and sealed behind him.

The Quarantine Officer proceeded to the Observation room, where he was provided a full view of the quarantined chamber through a large, ten inch thick glass window.

Inside the chamber stood Isaac, and he was surrounded on all sides by a massive quantity of pure Phazon ore. This was what he had been so reluctant to place Isaac in quarantine for.

Secretly, GF High Command had stored away tons of Phazon ore on the Olympus, for the purpose of experimentation and development of new bioweapons. The IDFH was completely unaware of the presence of such material, and most GF officials did not even know of its existence. If the IDFH found out about it, they would no doubt want it for themselves.

The Quarantine Officer continued to watch Isaac intently, and soon he began to notice a change in his usually calm demeanor. He began to twitch, and it soon became clear that the massive amount of Phazon around him made it difficult to mask his true feelings. The disguise faded away from Isaac and his true identity was revealed.

Cloud Strife, corrupted by the Phazon, was now trying absorb it all for himself. Frantic, the Quarantine Officer sent security mechs into the chamber to neutralize him, but he destroyed them all with a quick slash from his massive Buster Sword. Cloud then looked straight at the officer with a wicked grin on his face.

He shot at high speed straight through the plate glass, and proceeded to impale the Officer on his sword, cackling maniacally as he did so. But Cloud did not manage to kill the Officer before he pressed the red emergency button. Sirens were already blaring, and within seconds Captain Falcon and the majority of the crew had arrived, but were cautious of getting too close.

Falcon marched right up to Cloud, who swung his blade viciously. The Captain managed to dodge the first two swings, and then caught the blade in his hands on the third. He wrenched the Buster Sword out of Cloud’s grip and tossed it to the side, proceeding to bury Cloud in a flurry of punches. While Cloud was stunned from the attack, he brought back his fist in preparation for another attack.

    “FALCON…”

Flames surrounded the Captain, and his fist shot forward.

    “PAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUNNNNCCHHH!”

The Corrupted warrior was disintegrated into raw Phazon just from the power of the attack.

Captain Falcon looked back at his IDFH warriors in triumph.

“Awww yeah! We got one of them!”

But the IDFH was in staring in awe at the glowing blue mass behind him.
