Buffy Season 1, Episode 2: Distractions

Buffy is on patrol again. A familiar scene, the graveyard. No vamps today. As Buffy sighs and starts to walk away, hands begin to emerge from the various graves. CUt to opening credits/theme.

Buffy is sitting drinking tea with Willow in her house.

Buffy: I don't know. I just felt like things were going so ... right. I was finally beginning to move on with my life. You know. College. Normal Boys. And now the world is ending six ways to Saturday? Really?

Willow: Yeah, I mean it's so inconsiderate of them. Really.


Cut to Seon exits a bus at the bus terminal, and walks cautiously down the street, a blind woman walking down an unfamiliar street. Zombies emerge from various alleyways and begin to give chase. She hears their pursuit and turns toward a local restaurant. The doors are locked. She starts pounding on the door. Inside the restaurant:

Diner 1: Do you think we should help the blind woman.

Diner 2: I don't know. I'm not done eating yet, and what would we do? Zombies are pretty tireless after all.

Cut back to Willow and Buffy:

Buffy: Field Hockey. Maybe I'll try out for the field hockey team. I mean, all the running and jumping I do as a Slayer should make me good at that, right?

Willow: Yeah, I mean, you could use some stress-relief that bears a distinct resemblance to the physical exertion you engage in as your calling.

Back to restaurant. Outside, Seon is desperately thwacking the zombies with her cane.

Waiter: Can I get you folks anything else, or would you just like to save the blind woman now?

Diner 2: What do you have?

Waiter: Well, we have chocolate mousse, strawberry rhubarb pie, and vanilla sorbet.

Diner 2: The pie sounds delightful, thank you. turning to first diner She really is making quite a racket out there. I do wish she'd keep it down.

Back to Summers residence. Buffy and Willow are now playing scrabble.

Willow: So how was patrol tonight? I'm sorry I didn't come with you, but I was still shaken from last time.

Buffy: No big deal. It was pretty quiet. No vamps. Just a few groans and the sound of shuffling feet as I left the graveyard. Probably a few zombies.

Willow: Did you kill them?

Buffy: No, I was going to, but then I remembered mom asked me to pick up sugar and the grocery was about to close. I'll do it after this game.

Back to restaurant.

Waiter: And how will you be paying tonight?

Diner 1: Do you take personal check?

Waiter: No.

Diner 1: Diner's Club

Waiter: No, sorry.

Diner 1: Visa?

Waiter: Yes, sir.

[I]Waiter leaves and returns shortly.]

Waiter: I'm sorry sir, your card was rejected.

Seon: Oh for Pete's Sake! Seon goes down beneath the swell of zombies.
