So for a while now I've been on my self-imposed regimen of at least 30 pushups every day (morning, midday, night, and usually several sets of 10 inbetween), and at least 60 sit-ups a day, all at once in the middle of the day. Been trying pull-ups as well, but I'm garbage at those

.
But anyway, I came home tonight from baby-sitting, and immediately took off my shirt because they have several dogs and my little brother is kinda allergic. After doing this, I went into my parents room looking for a ride to my friends birthday party/sleepover (they're not here!!!!), and noticed myself, topless with jeans, in the mirror.
And man, I am a sexy dude. I mean usually I'm really modest and don't like to brag, but...damn. From what I looked like before to seeing myself like this, it's pretty awesome.
Of course I need to continue so I can do really well on the PFT when I go through OCS, since pilots have to have at least a 225, preferably over 240. Cobra Pilots, more specifically.
But still, it feels so good flexing and actually seeing like...muscles! all over the place! On cloud 9 right now, feelin really confident, like I could probably do anything right now.

Congratulations, now join those of us in the weight gain thread who have seen muscles and want more of them.
And keep your shirt on.

Why are you warming up?

Get some!
It's always better to be in shape before you get in, and then it's constant maintenance.

That's neat.
Back in high school, the girls on the cross country team would do 25 push ups. Two sets of 25, that is.

Man, I'm bad for getting muscled up. I pump weights every second night and ****, but genetics are keeping me slimmer than I would like. But I agree, I am looking sexier when I flex. I don't think push-ups help much, though; strike can confirm that.

That's alright, because he's going to be judged on his pull ups, crunches, and 3 mile run time. Push ups are going to be his break time.

message me about the pft for any branch of the military or service academy ive taken them all. and you need a 300 to be competitive. i cant imagine gatting asnything lower myself.
and do more pushups and situps those numbers are disgustingly low. ive done more pushups with a 50 pound ruck.
i am an 18 year old male with a culture of fitness but still man only 30 pushups and 60 situps. and do pullups they are a good measure of strength and healthy weight ratio.
AND START RUNNING! NOW! you need that 18:00

USMC PFT calculator.
I used to have a couple of certificates of appreciation from the Commandant for maxing that thing.
But in those days we had more events. One was a rope climb and at the moment I can’t remember the others.
They must be getting soft.
I bet they don’t even make you do the run in boots anymore.
But that was in the dark ages. The Commandant was Gen. Green

Long muscles, if you have an athletic build it's really hard to gain any extra. Easy with the heavy weights it's kinda futile, use light dumbells instead 20 kilo a hand max, or go swimming if you have a pool nearby, swimming 20 minutes a few times a week is more than enough

The ability to do push ups seems to vary a lot between people of otherwise similar levels of fitness. I can now do 28, when the average men my age is 30. I started off doing just 13 about a year ago (took a break before I started again a couple of months ago, started off then at 22).
At school when we did them at PE, I could do about 8. And yet I was top of the class for badminton and tennis, I know its more coordination but I could hit powerful shots. And at football even though I was one of the smallest (I had a late growth spurt, lol) I could out-challenge anyone and out-run most people.
My brother is the same, he tried and managed 26 push ups the other day. And he goes mountain biking all the time, does cross country, hill running, wins events where they do mixes of long distance biking/running etc.
At boxing there are skinny, weak looking people that do 100+ push ups. And other ones that look much stronger that get stuck at around 20-30 before they have to change style.
So it's not all about push ups. My aim it to increase my max by about 5-10 a month.

Haha, very funny.
I do more than 30, thats just my minimum. and increasing by 5 per day every week. so this week its 35 minimum, almost certainly doing double that every day.

Fixed, as is the Eye of Sauron on this thread ....
haha, still working on the pecs, and abs are definitely a WIP, but the difference from before is incredible. I feel like I could just take my shirt off and not be badly judged. And I have some new muscles. those are nice too :D.

Dude! You do know that means a minimum of
75% or
80% in each event don’t you?
Also that is back to back and no breaks in between. It tests endurance. Double your pushups is about a passing score for what you want along with 66 sit-ups and 2 miles in under 14:24.
If you work at it, it is not so hard though.
the sit-ups are supposed to be pretty easy, and i did the max today in under 2 minutes so i have that down basically, the pull-ups will be my real challenge, and it's a 3-mile run, which I could probably get in under 21:00, with enough training before hand (another 5-7 years, which is plenty of time). I'll probably add in a mile or 2 run every so often in the spring or summer.
I am gonna do Track this year though, so that will definitely help.
Fisherking I think they changed alot since you've done it; it's pull-ups, sit-ups (2-minute time limit), and 3-mile run currently. My 36 year old dad made a 280 on his last one, and tells me that most of the candidates coming through OCS score well into the latter half of the 200's. Doesn't mean I'll treat it any less seriously, but it's different now than what you think.
BTW I actually went to the current Comandants house for a party with my parents, apparently OCS got special seating and stuff; front-row seats to all the drill, as well as getting to walk through the house and meeting lots of high-up people.
Fisherking 20:46 01-30-2011
I had the misimpression you were doing the APRT. But then you did say Cobra Pilot... I had forgotten about your USMC background.
Yes pull ups can be tough. That is where you need the training program.
My last PFT was in 98 and that was the 3 event model then.

My cousin was at a party at a retired general’s home some years ago and he brought up my name. He may or may not have remembered me...and the bone headed stunt he spoke of.

Hooah, I sincerely tried but my camera, despite supposedly being able to shoot in 1080P, was unable to take a picture with any definition capable of detailing muscles. I know because I could clearly see them in the mirror, but the camera just couldn't do it.

i do the pft you did fisher. it hasnt changed in the army yet.

This explains everything.
You're seeing what you want to see, not what is really there.

Not masswise, but as you noticed that's hard for you. Thing with swimming is that you practically use all muscles.
