This is the wrong attitude. There will always be loads of work at uni, and occasionally you just need to say "**** you work I'm going to dress up as a superhero/Monty Python character/Pokémon and get smashed" in order to relax. Of course, if you don't like getting drunk then by all means don't drink, but regardless do not plan on having a "quiet time". Plenty of time for that when you're retired.

    nonsense! drink.

i have friends who dont drink at uni and its really sort of lame. look alot of kids go to uni never drinking and planning on not doing so thinking that its too much of a risk you can still have fun otherwise etc.

drinking going to house parties bars is where you meet friends have fun relax forget about your problems.... and your night....

just do so somewhat responsibly. stay away from certain drinks and drinking styles.

Oh god yes. If someone challenges you to a game of "Centurion" do not under any circumstances say yes. It's better in those circumstances to flat out refuse than be bullied via peer pressure into doing stuff like that.

Guys, when I say "a quiet time at Uni" I dont mean sit in my room and play video games as my only form of recreation, I mean that I dont want to attend any wild parties or post-game riots (which I most likely will be part of the effort to stop anyways- Maryland PD FTW).
I do plan on going to bars and meeting people, and will probably attend parties, just none of this fraternity junk.

Yeah you'd be best staying away from the drugs considering your future career, but otherwise that sounds like fun. More importantly, the kind of fun which you will only be able to do at university.

Or just sit and your home and drink by yourself, like I do sometimes. I haven't been out in my whole time at Uni... don't be like me.

    Congratulations!

I actually got into my current job by starting with a reserve position for my department, although I think auxiliary police on the East Coast might be somewhat different (I know that's true of the North East at any rate). It's been quite an interesting experience.

I hope you picked your major because it's what you're interested in and not just to get into your future career. I hear from FBI agents I've spoken to that a Criminal Justice (or even Law) degree doesn't always help as much as expected, because so many applicants have them.

I would say I am as well. But the point is that you can only have those kind of parties at university, whilst you can down the pub with your mates for the rest of your life.

Yes, I am actually interested in CJ.
I took an Intro to Ethics course this summer in the hopes that it would address problems that law enforcement and the military face in their jobs, but no luck, it was all philosophy of happiness and other stuff like that.

That sounds like just about every ethics class I've ever been to, although the one in the reserve academy was rather more interesting.

Bah, the FBI only cares if you've smoked weed in the previous three years. That means that even if he applies immediately upon graduation, he can still smoke up a storm his freshman year.

Congrats, Hooah! Obviously you're in a whole different direction than myself, but just remember that nothing needs to get blown out of proportion.

Also, just now getting Senioritis? I was already at the two year mark by that point! Kids these days....

Technically they care if it was the past 10 years:

If he won't perform one of 39 acts of work on a Saturday, I doubt he'll be having girls over to his dorm...

Meeting people at parties is overrated. It's fun, but Fallout New Vegas was always the better choice.

    @ACIN /\ Lame.

    First off: Congrats!

Secondly, don't you have to have worked at some job for 3+ years before you can get into the FBI?

Thirdly, they are actively looking for engineering people to apply. Probably because they don't just want a bajillion people with criminal justice degrees.

Finally, frat parties depend on the frat.

Parties really are overrated though. Unless you are fishing for some one night stands with ladies, there are much better activities with friends. I enjoyed going to a "kickback" of a friend of mine, where the policy was lots of alcohol, but only those invited by the house hosts could come, no guests unless you asked. My friend, the house host, (along with another guy who lived there) picked a good 35 people they knew to come hang out and it was great alcohol fueled networking with people who were actually damn interesting. Large parties and the such are simply a dumb escape for people who seem to get enjoyment out the primal urge to regress to a complete idiot and proceed to **** a woman. They usually have a very poor caliber of people attending and are too numerous for the house to hold adequately.

Depends on the party of course, but so long as you know people there you should be alright.
