    Default Six Nations Rugby

So, who's following this? I'll refrain from comment because I'll utter some offensive and nationalistic comments but I am curious. It's set in the context of avoiding war with other nations which makes it all the worse in my American-centric perspective; but it seems to be important in Europe.

In the spirit of good rugby, I'm posting this while drunkeded on alcheolohal. What are your thoughts?

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

Scots....Scots....I don't need to see any Scots lose. It's fine with me if they win. Or the Irish.

I mean, you beat the Scots, and then afterwards you go drink a beer with them. It's all good. Actually, when in the company of Scotsmen it is customary to have had a few pints together even before the game has begun. Rather, come to think of it, moslty one skips the game altogether because, let's face it, we all know what the final result will be so why waste eighty minutes of good beer time.

The English on the other hand...

Well actually, come to think of it, when you beat the English afterwards you drink beer with them all the same too. Only this time you won't shut up about the game. Which is not hard to do, because no Frenchman speaks better English than when he has just beaten England and has found some live English to rub it in.
In the unlikely but still too common event of a rosbif win the only procedure is to go home and sulk.

And if the Frenchies manage to win we go home muttering darkly about 'gallic flair' and 'questionable gamesmanship'...

Luckily this one is at Twickenham which gives even this English team a slight advantage against even that French side...

I get really caught down the middle with the 6 nations. England/France is a game I can only lose... I should be able to say the opposite too but I really dislike mind-numbing English rugby and get hugely frustrated when France have one of their (all too frequent) off days.

I agree that the common-denominator for fun is beer, however.

c'mon, there's nothing like a nice driving maul to get the blood flowing. eventually ending up in a pile of bodies just short of the try line. setting and resetting while the defence struggles vainly to hang on before conceding the inevitable three point penalty for some technicality that is invisible to the naked eye...

    I love rugby.

I'll give you that, but in the last few 6 nations that I've watched, I've seen France play more (or more successfull) rolling mauls than England. But then, as we all know, every game of Rugby is only a French vistory to be lost.

I think I might have to get up at four in the morning to watch it live (I live in Australia)

Alternatively I could record it and try to impose a media blackout on Sunday morning until I've had a chance to watch it...

Rather belated congratulations to France for a professional win in Dublin last week. I watched aghast at a display of indiscipline only a team largely made up of Leinstermen could commit.

Not only are we over the hill, we are hurtling down it rather in the manner of that cheese the English chase somewhere in Wiltshire. Luke FitzGerald is not a fullback. However, for much of the match it did seem as if we had rejected the Kerrygold sponsorship of our handling skills apparent in Rome. But after nearly three years of giving away pointless penalties for not rolling away, one might hope Kidney might have got the message through by now. Seems not.

Oh, and FitzGerald is not a fullback. Medard, however, is close to beautiful.

Terrifying first half. Tense second. Poor cameraman. Scrawny win.

Congrats too to Italy for their first ever Garibaldi trophy.

And well done to Ireland for at long last playing something resembling proper rugby this weekend.
