Thread: City Models and Battle Map

  1. #1

Default City Models and Battle Map

is the EB team having to completely reskin and redesign how cities will look in battle mode? Assuming you have to do this, are you going to skin for more nuance in each culture? As in Arabian culture won't share the same building style as those in North Africa, as they would in EBI.

Along with this, will Unique buildings be modeled within a city? Like the Palatine Hill of Rome or the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.

I ask as the RTW engine seems to have limited a lot, making regions and city layouts very homogenous and boring due to the culture and other engine limitations.

I think this is all hardcoded.

I would be happy if they were able to mod it to be close to how they looked EB 1. I know that city models can be modded to a certain extent, but I realize this isn't top priority. I just hope there aren't crosses and minarets everywhere in the final release. It would be shame to have all the other brilliant work the team does on making things historical to be sullied by completely anachronistic architecture.

There is no Arabian Culture or North Africa Culture. Due to the limit of 7 distinct, Carthage has to share a culture slot with Saba (this was chosen as they are both Semetic cultures, even if their material cultures are somewhat different.

As for everything else, modifying cities to have unique landmarks mean that they cannot be upgraded over time. We will not be doing this.

That makes sense. But as for the cities themselves, surely we won't be walking through Rome or Byzantion with 14th century architecture, minarets, cathedrals, and all? I'm assuming you guys thought of something clever to remedy that

This is not our first concern, and we are not planning any changes to settlements in the first release. If you happen to have the skills to help in this regard then please get in contact with the team.

I'm guessing the minarets and cathedrals will not be there because of them being actual buildings that won't be built anyway.

that's true, certainly. I have faith that the EB team in time will figure something or other out. The buildings really do add a lot to the experience

However, I think the EB buildings will use M2TW battle map models, leading to you still seeing cathedrals and minarets

Thank you for your answer, but that brings up a question to me. I'm not sure, but i think you once mentioned that the "castles" of MTW2 will be used to represent nomadic settlements. So if you attack a nomad camp will you be facing a castle on the battle-map?
