True, but only because white people tend to have better socioeconomic backgrounds. Still, having better/worse socioeconomic backgrounds is not synonymous with being white/black.

The sensible thing therefore to do in order to "level the playing field" would be to have positive discrimination based on improving the chances of those that comes from less privileged backgrounds, regardless of the colour of their skin.

Because right now, poor white people are screwed in such a system (even if its effect is exaggerated). It makes no sense. And how can you be surprised when its these people that end up going all racist and fascist?
