I think that the main weaknesses are as follows:
    - the AI is way to egaer to engage with cavs with the predictable result of losing them way to early in the game
    - the AI makes no attempt of flanking with infantry, as a result it ends up in a big blob
    - I saw no attempts of targeting archers or my general on behalf of the AI
    - the AI makes no attempt to protect its flank once engaged (it seems pretty much "brainded" after engaging)

I posted up a detailed description of my battle (on VH) here:

I've fought the battle a few times on H and I agree with 1 and 4, the others are a bit situational. I've seen flanking cav supported by katana samurai and my general getting singled out by ranged. It all depends on the situation. However one thing that's consistant is the AI is slow to react once the main battle has committed.

Another thing i've noticed is.. yep, suicide generals are back. Right from the STW vault! 3/3 times the AI threw its general at my main line hoping to use their general's shock to punch through my center. 2/3 times this was a completely futile move that was doomed before it started. On those times it ended with the enemy general dead. The shock may have worked if the general wasn't charging right into spear wall Ashigaru.

On the third time i swapped the Ashigaru with Katana samurai in my center, and the extra weight of the enemy general charge actually worked and did punch through my line, so points for consistency i guess. Overall the AI isn't perfect but there's still good with the bad. The AI is holding its formation, attempting some form of tactics and actually requires me to keep my eyes open to beat it. Thats a first for vanilla gameplay in at least 3 years. I'll take that above sending single units to attack at a time any day.
