Thread: Recruitment information

    Default Recruitment information

In this thread FriendlyFire commented that the Recruitment Viewer is out of date, being EB 1.1 as opposed to the current 1.2. He refers to using the Heimstatt pages.

Heimstatt is very good (although some unit images and some recruitment maps are missing), but for recruitment it gives province lists by selecting faction and unit. The Recruitment Viewer gives unit lists by selecting faction and province and MIC, which is very important, especially when you're thinking about building either the faction or regional MIC's and you'd like to know what units you will get in a given province at later MIC levels. For instance, as Koinon Hellenon in Makedonia if you really want to build at least up to Regional MIC 4, the Recruitment Viewer says you will be able to recruit Misthophoroi Thraikioi Prodromoi, even thought the first 3 levels of Regional MIC apparently give you nothing.

Short of digging a whole lot through either Heimstatt or the EB text files and collating them I see no other way to get that information. Is there other way to find this out?

yeah for instance the Red Sea Hoplite is in Theron and Axum area, but doesn't designate what type of government or MIC i require.

No exact way, but an intuitive one, i´d say. You normaly know you factional units, so any other local one would need local barraks, so far so good. Now, the stronger, better, "heavier", the more elite a unit is, the higher level of the barracks are required. The last tier are, mostly, elite cavalry units, or those rare super units with cool stats/abilities, which require the 5th tier of the barracks. And, though it is quite cool to have superb and unique units to play with, the realismus aspect requires realistic behaiviour: if you want access to the local elite units, you have mostly no choice but to establish a client kingdom. The only thing i miss is that one has to build up all the local barracks line from scratch, while normaly a king would simply call for aid, and his allies would provide troops, so far available. I do see the nessesity of building up you own factional barracks in the subdued territories, though.

as i just began an advanced campaign with Koinon Hellenon (didnt care the first time about guard mode/on off and using the knowledge of recruitment viewer and http://europabarbarorum.heimstatt.net/ for alternative units) after the hints from FriendlyFire actually i see no problem with it.
@fomalhaut: just use the heimstatt data together with the data you get from the rec.viewer - the viewer tell you which MIC type (and hence which government) you need for the units in the mentioned provinces. (with checked "Detailed Info" in the province data window)

    I'll take Epeiros as an example;

Using the recruitment viewer, I'll highlight troops available to level 5 regional MIC only.
If we take the recruited generals out of the picture, there are only 3 units left; Brihentin (in Mediolanium and Massalia, I won't expand further north), Indian Elephants (far away) and Scordisci Infantry (in Scorcouw).
That's three provinces where I know I'll want to install level 4 goverments. The rest of my conquest will go through the usual process; level 3, level 2, level 1.
Level 3 government allows to reach level 4 regional MIC which lets me recruit every unit everywhere (everywhere but Gaul, India and a province on the Danub).

Must I bother reaching level 4 Reg. MIC in every province ? No thanks, I'll work with province viewer and work out a list looking like this:

    Arretium 4/3
    Segesta 0/4
    Mediolanium 0/5
    Massalia 4/5

    My future targets.
I can see that in Arretium I must reach level 4 factional MIC and level 3 regional MIC. Fortunately, doing so only requires a level 2 government. In Segesta, I'd build a level 3 government, build up the regional MIC, switch to a level 2 government and forget about the city, or remember just enough so that I don't waste money on useless buildings. Massalia deserve the full course, level 4 gov to level 2, building all the barracks all the way up.

See, the recruitment viewer and the hiemstatt, still for the Red Sea Hoplite are completely different. Hiemstatt points out west of the red sea only, while RV points out east of the read sea only. :lol

hmm ..well i just looked with my rec.viewer and there are the same provinces highlighted as with heimstatt. Erythraia and Diamat. ..could it be you choose Red Sea light Infantry instead? ..´cause they are listed just below Red Sea Hoplites and the provinces highlighted then are on the east coast of the red sea.

well Poulp´ dropped some interesting knowledge here - never thought about reaching such maximum MIC development in certain provinces in doing this government upgrade course. ..thats most effective use of the recruitment viewer - thanks

nope i definitely picked Red Sea Hoplites. and maybe our RV's are different versions?

Anyways Red Sea Hoplites could only be recruited in Axum at the second highest level anyway, not worth sending them up the Nile them being below average units anyway.

maybe - i didnt care about the Rec.viewer (V-0.9) until now anyway - by installing EB i installed it as well but didnt used it.
but now i see its a real good tool.
picked some special units with it which i never trained in my first KH campaign (used then almost only factional troops) - and im happy with them now: like the thraikioi peltastai they´re just fantastic - dont miss ´em when your campaign leads into that area!
reg. Poulp´s MIC building strategy i must revoke my enthusiasm - surely most effective to have high level MIC´s of both lines - but i guess its not as meant by the inventors.
