Help: game crashing

I just installed this great old game to take a break from other newer games. Everything was working fine until I reached the second turn. The AI moved their pieces like they did on the end of the first turn but right then and there, as their pieces stopped and it was going to be my turn, the game froze. I am on windows XP but my computer is fairly old and I have ran this game on this computer years ago. I'm not sure what the problem is and I'm not tech savy. Also the advisor in the throne room equals automatic lockup. I always had that problem but I want to fix that also. But right now I can't even get pass the second turn! Please help, I love this game.

At the start of your turn, event parchments often appear or event videos, this could be triggering the crash...

Which version are you playing? Is it the Warlord Edition? The original "red box" Shogun, the gold edition or do you have the red box with the extra Mongol invasion expansion installed?

the original version i'm sure. old cds and no mongols.

If it's the original shogun (reb box), then you need to install the v1.12 patch.

Got the patch installed but still have the problem. I'm not sure what it is about the second turn. Maybe its trying to tell me my crop yield for the year and freezes, but I honestly don't know.

Did you read the thread I linked? If so you'd realise it's probably the death poems/harvest bug. When those events occur some speech is played and due to a codec problem it crashes. See if you can actually play the mp3s in the voices/poems/ directory.

I did read a bit about the poem problem. I can play all the voice files within that folder fine and didn't think that was an issue at first.

Should I delete the poem folder anyway and hope it doesn't crash when it comes to crop yields?

I've never tried it - never delete, rename and see what happens...

I renamed it, didn't work. I deleted it, didn't work. Not sure what my other options are. I even got the CCCP thing and tried adjusting the codec settings like the other topic suggested. Any other possible methods I would still like to try.

I did rename the harvest folder and now I'm fine. But after a few years of playing, I received a request to see an emissary. The door opened for him to enter the throne room but it froze there. I'm betting this will probably happen again when the dutch or portugese try to trade with me. Any possible way to fix this? Like I said before, I can play the audio files and so on but everything that has to do with the throne room, doesn't work.

Video codecs are the problem that causes the throne room advisor and the emissaries to crash. Have you installed any unusual ones? These might have been installed by some other programs you have. This is all covered in the thread I linked. I can't help you much beyond that as I haven't used windows for more than 12 months. If this problem persists I advise you to go to the .com and post a thread there, linking to this one. Maeda Toshiie is admin there and knows a lot about these kinds of problems.
