MTW TO MY GRAVE AND BEYOND!
M2TW TO THE GRAVE TO STAY!

Vanilla M2TW held barely any challenge in both the campaign and the tactical battles, even on VH/VH. Compared to the hardest setting on vanilla MTW there is actually no challenge. Bringing mods into it throws the balance of challenge and fun and enjoyment and atmosphere out of sync. Whilst you can do much more with the somewhat-polished M2TW engine, even the most challenging and fun mods available for it still fall well short of the original MTW.

Plus I there's a whole load of nostalgia behind MTW with me. :P

The response for MTW is quite overwhelming.
Ja mata, TosaInu. You will forever be remembered.

    Been to:

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.

A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?

Well, the fact that MTW is old school tokens actually appeals to me.

IMHO, the AI in RTW was never very good at handling the movement of its armies. The simplified Strategic component should make it easier for the AI and thus lead to more interesting tactical battles. In RTW, sometimes it does just fine, but all too often you run into a general crossing dangerous grounds alone, or a stack full of archers. Mostly though, I am sick of a million battles per turn against pathetic rebel armies that seem to pop up no matter what. They are just annoying and a waste of time.

I don't know if they fixed this in ETW & NTW & STW2, but large empire-management needed work in RTW - there were almost no tools to deal with it (I don't mean settlement auto-management, I mean movement of troops etc). Like could we have had a "take no action this turn button"? Or a "Set to garrison"? So that we did not have to cycle through the same units 20 times in the same turn? (Each time you have a unit enter a city it resets the queue). My point is that at least in MTW1, this should be simplified again.

So, now comes the hard part, I will have to try to get myself a copy...

    ETW:

ETW had no AI. Don't believe reports to the contrary.

    NTW:

You're now facing a three year old in charge of the enemy army.

why did I just lose so fast?

Hmmm...sounds interesting. I can't remember when I played a game when losing was even a possibility...so sign me up...

Oh yeah, I need a new computer first...as usual I will get to try it only after everyone else has forgotten it.

Well in the meantime, why not read some Orgah impressions of Shogun 2? Might shed some light on what I just said.
