Thread: Can't use reinforcements

    Default Can't use reinforcements

I,m playing a campaign with KH right now, and I have noticed something wierd about reinforcements.

Even if I put them as player-controlled they will appear as AI-reinforcements. This has happened the last 4-5 times (But that is like all the battles where I've had reinforcements), and is really annoying (especially on one occasion wher I controlled two kretan archer units and the AI controlled the entire rest of my army.

Do you know what is causing it? May it be the script?

Oh, and also my new generals won't lose their 'green' trait. One of them even has a silver chevron and is still "green".

First, try not to minimize the scroll of the battle like going to see the enemy's army and whatnot. If you are attacking; retreat and attack again, uncheck and go to the battle.

Second, bad installation or EBBS problem.

As Jirisys already stated, don't open the army information scroll after setting your option, it will reset to default otherwise.

The second is intended, his experience to lead an army in a battle has nothing to do with his (and his bodyguard's) ability to kill people by sword.
Let him command battles were the odds are against him, send him in many battles and he will probably become a better general.

    Thanks for the replies!

About the second point, Those generals hasn't commanded any battles, only been liutenants, so that might be the reason.

But cold you rephrase your point abot reinforcements? I didn't quite understand. Should I retreat when I see that I can't control my reinforcements, wouldn't that cause me a lot of casualties?

You can't really win chevrons without fighting (in RTW). You can't have the "green" trait if you have fought a battle (again in RTW).

So it's impossible to have chevrons and have the "green" trait (and yet again... In RTW).

    IIRC it goes like this:
On the battle information scroll is a checkbox where you can opt to control any reinforcements you will receive in this battle. If you now check it to take control and afterwards open any army scroll the box is reverted to default (=no control by the human player), so you'll have to check it again. Vanilla behavior.
So either don't open army scrolls after you made your choice or remember to opt again.

Bear in mind that you can't control more than 20 units in a battle, so if you main army has less than 20 units in it, these slots will be filled rather randomly and the other units will wait outside the battlefield until a unit is either destroyed, routed or drawn back by player (which sometimes offers strategic bonuses, you can replace archers without ammo with cavalry, i.e.).

Well, I remember that once I had two units as reinforcements (that I was set to control) and I had 20 units in the field, but when I withdrew a unit they refused to enter the field. But I will remember the one about checking the box AFTER wiewing the armies.

Jiri, if you have multiple generals in a battle, only one will get the 'command' of the battle, usually the one with the highest command stars, unless faction leader is present. I believe that generals have to 'command' a battle to be given 'blooded' instead of 'green, and to have battles count towards their total 'commanded' to get traits like 'veteran' 'grizzled' and 'seen the elephant'. I believe this is what happened, and as far as I know that is working as designed.

And yes, if you tick the box for commanding reinforcements, but then minimize it or otherwise exit out of the pre-battle screen, it will un-tick the box automatically. This minor problem is fixed in M2TW, iirc.

It has to escape from the field. Completely. Where you can't see the arrow on the mini-map.

Also. I had never use that strategy XSamatan. I guess you made my battles a lot easier .

No. He must only be in the battle. It doesn't matter if he is commanding or not.
