Beautiful pics! Bran Castle is really cool, I've never seen slanted towers like that.

Bran Castle was built by the Teutonic Knights in 1212 at the invite of the Hungarian King who wanted to ensure military control over the unruly Wallachian peasants who roamed the areas.

Today it's a major touristic attraction and inside it houses a splendid Romanian Royal Family museum.

    Lovely pics, beautiful places!

Also, slight mix-up, I believe. Scienter means the cupolas on the Cathedral of Curtea de Argeş. Bran Castle is the picture below that.

Oh, I didn't notice that. The Curtea de Arges Cathedral is of obvious Byzantine style with Arabic/Moorish influence and was built in the late 16th century as the seat of the Orthodox Church.

On another topic, here's two traditional Romanian dances.

It's caled Calusul, and the dancers Calusari, which more or less means Horse Dancers.

And this is a typical Hora...

That's just a collection of pics, I'm trying to find a video with a real Hora dance.

For all you gourmands out there...
Posted by a friend over at TWC, some really good examples of local food.

    Cozonac

    Traditionally Decorated Easter Eggs

Sarmale (cabbage rolls filled with minced meat) alongside mamaliga (polenta)

Sarmalute in foi de vita (Rolls filled with minced meat in grapevine leaves)

    Eggplant salad

    Soup in homemade bread

Vişinată and afinata (alcoholic beverage produced from sour cherries or blackberries)

Socată (soft drink made from the flowers of the European elder (or elderberry) shrub)

Tuica (traditional alcoholic beverage usually made from plums - warning! - this can go up to 80 degrees )

And a collection of excellent wines: Traditional: Tămâioasă Românească; Fetească Regală, Grasă de Cotnari, Fetească Neagră, Frâncuşa

International: Merlot, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel.

That soup looks incredible, never seen, or heard of, of using a bread as a bowl. Got to try that
