Tosa Cup Prize Update - Official CA Sponsorship

The Tosa Cup, sponsored by

The Creative Assembly has decided to sponsor additional prizes for the Tosa Cup Tournament. They are providing a signed Collector's Edition of Total War: Shogun 2, as well as a t-shirt. These prizes will be in addition, to the $50 direct download game of the winner's choice, contributed by the Org.

It is undecided yet whether all of these prizes will go to the winner or will be distributed to the top players. I see two possible options, one where the winner gets all three prizes, and one where they are split amongst first, second, and third places, with the first place finisher getting their choice from all three, the second place finisher getting their choice of the remaining two, and the third place finisher getting the remaining prize. The final decision on this will be made by the Org staff before the tournament begins, but input is welcome on the best option.

In addition to being signed, which is pretty rare, most players do not have the Collector's Edition of the game. It comes with the following things that the regular game does not:
A unique playable faction: The Hattori Clan
An additional historical battle scenario ‘Nagashino’
A complete set of armour for your online avatar and a starting bank of XP for you to spend on your online character.
A Shogun 2 art book
A detailed figurine of Takeda Shingen

If you win it and don't want it, you can also give it away to a friend and save yourself a birthday or holiday present.

That was the decision we made. From the Official start thread:

One prize will be awarded to each of the top three places. The first place player will get to pick whichever of the three they want. The second place player will get to pick whichever of the remaining two they want. The third place player will get the third prize.

I know right? Half the people didn't even show up to play, lol. The chance to play a game you like with some good comeptition no MM alt-f4'ing and win a prize on top of that, but lets not show up, lol.

With tournaments trying to be played in 1 or 2 days like this you should just pull everyone into one big chat room and fill the brackets that day. This is how it was done in World in Conflict when 1 day torunaments were held. Setup the matches with people that showed up that day to play.

When you want to include a huge number of players from all over with different timezones and schedules you have it 1 week each round to give people lots of time to set a date and time to play their matches.

Yes, we made a mistake by trying to be half-way... encouraging lots of play on a single day, but planning for a full week. We should have committed to just one or the other. We will not make that mistake again. Big tournaments will be longer, with specific schedules set out well in advance. 1 day tournaments will be much smaller (probably 32 player max) and everyone will HAVE to commit to being online at the start time. Those that don't show by a certain specified hour forfeit instantly. We will also require everyone to be in the Org steam group as well to make communication easier. Not in the steam group means you don't even go on the bracket.

We've learned a lot, rules and scheduling will be significantly improved in the future.
