Day 3

As was probably to be expected, the trapped campers still had not yet come together three days in. Nobody could blame them, of course - it takes a certain type of individually-inclined personality to choose a road life after all. In their world, self-sufficiency meant survival. You had to learn to not depend on anybody, since the possibilities were great that they wouldn't be there for you the next day.

However, now, things had changed. For once, self-sufficiency would get them nowhere, as only banding together and working as a cohesive group would get them to survive. As of Day 3, though, the campers showed no real signs of knowing that lesson. Voting was all over the place, with a full nine campers receiving at least one vote. The two leading candidates at the end of the day, Diamondeye and Chaotix, receiving a minuscule three votes each. Such close totals, where there was no clear favorite, only served to put everyone else on edge. When only two votes separated you from oblivion, you weren't in a good place.

Even during the runoff round, the campers were still bitterly divided, with votes flying in seemingly equal numbers in both directions. Diamondeye always seemed to be consistently ahead, and he began eying the largest log in the fire with some sweat. However, Chaotix always seemed to pull even with him, causing them both to sweat excessively. At the end of the day, though, the totals came back: Diamondeye by two. Chaotix would live to see another day.

Diamondeye started slowly, unconsciously, edging away from the log that would be his fate. Zack's mistake had been to focus on the wielder of the log, not the log itself. Diamondeye would not be taken by surprise, he would meet his death in the face and be prepared for -

He crumpled to the ground in a heap. This time, they had used the second largest log in the fire.
