I'm not entirely convinced of my own reasoning (though what else is new), but regardless Andres and Scienter should both die. Both are legitimately scummy. If it's neither of them and no mafia have been lynched already, it's either lurker scum like a Csargo/Khaan pair (and the town has failed already by not pressuring them while it was still early enough to afford to do so -- instead of, for instance, ZACK ); or it's someone doing something fairly clever.

Here's the case on Scienter that Andres has persistently failed to highlight while simultaneously calling for her head:

Deflecting -- there's no possible case at this point, no need to take this seriously. So why does she?

"I find it interesting" is one of the scummier phrases out there. "Yeah, right, vote: Andres" -- that's genuine. "I find it interesting (insinuate, insinuate, insinuate), FOS Andres" -- scum.

Finally, the vote comes, at a point when Andres is in no danger of lynch. Scienter's never voted Andres since (unless she did at some point today).

Whether this is distancing or not, it is clearly suspicious from Scienter. The cautious, step-wise approach to accusing someone screams of unnerved mafia; the lack of follow-up only emphasizes the point. There are other scummy posts from her, but this is the best sequence to demonstrate it.

And JHT makes a fairly good partner for Scienter if it's not Andres. His votes minus day one have been SAFESAFESAFE, and I think the only time he questioned anything all game was to ask what the case was on Scienter yesterday ... flinch? I've said before the only way to reliably nail JHT is to pressure a partner; he is quite vulnerable that way.

I think Andres isn't being evasive (at least not to the degree before) now. He's given responses to every important issue. Now the issue is whether his responses are satisfying. I think the whole Scienter thing is somewhat contrived sounding. Continually going after her as a strong opinion also.

Renata, I don't like that case on Scienter. For example, the deflecting and taking it seriously charge is a really uncharitable interpretation of that. It was a one liner comment for godssake. Also, I FIND IT INTERESTING that you base your case on certain examples of phraseology. Scienter may seem fake, but I think there's better examples than what you've chosen.

Also, you should be thanking people like khaan and Csar for keeping a bit quiet. How much more difficult would it be for you analytical players to do your thing if there was more irrelevant information out there? Just because they don't play the game like you doesn't mean they aren't taking it seriously.

We've milked this Andres Atpg/Chaotix thing almost fully, the Scienter thing will continue further, and we have targeted lynch choices for this meantime. Much better than getting drowned in information unusable at the moment. Focus on lynching one of Andres, Atpg, Chaotix or maybe Scienter today.

If anyone has something to say about an unrelated matter hold it for now (use your discretion of course, something really good might be worth saying).

I'm of two minds, presently.

While it is necessary and prudent to find someone you think is suspicious and must die, you must always consider alternatives.

I'm either right or wrong on Andres. The odds suggest I'm wrong, but I have some faith in my ability to spot scummy behavior. That said, if I am wrong, the very safest thing for the scumbags to do is just let all this discussion tear the townies apart as they accuse each other.

So, if I am wrong on Andres, I would wager that one of the folks who hasn't spoken yet this round is guilty and loving this. A typical Yaseikhaan tactic, so I'll place a Finger of Suspicion on my old nemesis.

Day 5

Well now, certainly, the battle lines were drawn. The evolution from the voting being a disorganized cacophony of voices being thrown every which way to an organized cacophony going in only two or three directions was finally complete. Where once there was chaos, there was now order, but none of the vitriol had been lost in the transition. If anything, the debate had grown even more heated, with even more volume being generated than in previous days despite the fact that there only nine people still alive.

The debate today had focused on two major points: Andres coming out hard against Scienter, and Askthepizzaguy coming out equally hard against Andres. In a previous life, before he had decided to take to the road, Andres had been a lawyer, and a successful one at that. It showed in all of his vociferous arguments against Scienter and even more so in his defense against himself against ATPG by ignoring the strong points made against him and focusing on the weak ones.

What had prompted Andres to give up the lawyerly life and instead become one of them, nobody had ever bothered to ask. There was precious little small talk amongst the campers, given their situation. This talk of course became even less when it looked as if the person who they were sharing their secrets with might kill them the very next night. So, the story of Andres, epic and heartfelt and real as it was, no more or less true than the rest of theirs, would go untold, as in all likelihood most of the rest of theirs. Instead, Andres's only story would be that of his execution, for he eventually lost out in his argument.

People would sit around the fire and in their tents and reflect on the way Andres, tired of the anticipation, would take the largest flaming log and bash his own head in, his final words being that it was only fitting that it would end this way because this is what he felt like he had been doing for the past two days anyway. They would do that, and then in their final thoughts before getting what passed for sleep nowadays, would wonder if this would be the last night.

And all the while, the soggy conditions finally started to improve.
