    I also highly endorse GIMP. It's essentially Photoshop, but free and opensource. It's the only image editor I use.

    Are the instructions downloadable or part of the application download? I installed it and fooled around with it somewhat, but in reality, I have no idea what I am doing! Thanks! :)

    Manual is a separate download. You can find it here:

    It does take a bit of getting used to. If you're used to Photoshop, things are not in the same locations. However, once you get used to it, it's a good program. Does everything you need, and it's free. Hard to ask for more.
