use mounted unit as infantry?

I don't think it's that easy... I know nothing about modding but common sense makes me think you'd have to make new models, animations, skins... blablabla ;)

Last time I did something like that was some years ago in vanilla but as far as I remember is fairly easy to mount/dismount units but very time consuming (since you want to create a new unit there's lots of files to mess up.
But I'm very out of pratice and its late here so there's probably people around that can explain how to do that much better than I.

well i think it'd be as 'easy' as just creating a new unit in the EDU, just w/o the mounted trait and the necessary changes. i'm just unfamiliar with the specifics

doesn't need new models and skins, but you'll need to make new entry at DMB with infantry skeleton, the problem is EB allready used all of it

It's not as easy as that, like Cute Wolf said you would need to create a new DMB entry too so the unit used the correct skeleton and animations. There are no free slots left in EB's DMB, I vaguely recall that the expansion exe's have more slots available but I'm not certain.

Alex has more slots available, not sure how much, (may be unlimited?) but much, so go on. This should help http://www.twcenter.net/wiki/Adding_Units_-_RTW all necessary links are there. Also don't forget to add new unit cards and entry into EDB to recruit them in buildings. And you shouldn't forget to backup all the stuff.

PS

and don't forget to make new sprites, you don't want to see your dismounted units sitting on horses when the camera is far, isn't it?

your dismounted units will fly instead on sitting on horse, actually...

BTW, Alex model limit? just count every entry on LOTR-TW DMB
