Ah, I used an Apple II emulator to run Oregon Trail. Much the same concept, I think.
What is different is that this is all written in JavaScript (and at least compared to QEMU it is different because the JavaScript code actually executes the x86 machine code).

So does this mean I can finally replay Wasteland? In my browser?
No you'd have to port the DOS to it/extend the emulator to provide mimic more hardware capabilities: this emulator is just the strict minimum for Linux apparently.
