Thread: The EBII Recruitment thread

  1. #91

Default Re: The EBII Recruitment thread

Hi, I already posted in the same thread on TWC, but no one replied in some days, so am trying here (other forums are also not letting me make some posts, saying it has forbidden words...)

Anyway, I'm an old EB fan, having played since EB1 Beta, and have been following EB2 since the start (although I don't post much)

Got a lot of free time now, and would love to help in any way you need. Got 20 years programming experience (almost no modding experience though, besides minor tweaks in the original EB script), and could help in anything besides history and graphics.

    Please PM if interested

Also I've read about Scourge of War in articles and it was rated very highly for being realistic, detailed, educational, strategic and fun. Actually I should try it out some time.
The game is fully available as a free download, you just need to pay for an activation code to unlock the game past the demo: http://www.scourgeofwar.com/downloads.shtml

    Hello,

I'm a professional programmer who recently found my way back into the Europa Barbarorum universe (I played 0.74 and 0.8) quite a while back. I've recently been enjoying EB 1.2 and am very excited for EBII. I'd really like to see it get into Open Beta and I'd like to offer my services in programming / scripting if they are needed. I know that at this stage in any development project its a risk bringing on a new person but if you need the manpower I'm all for it. I don't have experience in TW modding but I constantly have to learn new programming techniques and libraries at my job so I'm not too concerned about it. I'd say that the best place I could be of help is if you need assistance scripting things that you already have working examples of (an example would be if you needed a building scripted, I'm sure you have lots of examples of that floating around somewhere). Please PM if interested.

    Thanks,

    Mhael

    Hey

I'd like to offer my help with any .tga building icons you need created. From the twitter updates I'm guessing your EDB is rather large so you'll be needing a couple of thousand images sorted, created, arranged. maybe I could help taking on a culture or two. I've never tried skinning before but if I can help keep your current artists skinning all's good. If you feel I could be of any use to you guys pls contact on TWC. (Same username).

    Thanks

    Hello All

This message is for Brennus, I was directed here by Halthabas after writing a message there in the TWC EBII recruitment thread, which went like this:

"I'm a History & English graduate with some 40 years' experience in wargaming and more or less constant study of ancient history (total autodidact in this case). Example: currently reading up on Castro culture in Galicia, Spain, where I live. Access to a number of local databases and fluent Spanish speaker, useful for reading research by academics like F. Quesada Sanz.

I'd love to help out on what I regard as a true labour of love, EB is the first game I've encountered that gets close to the spirit and feel of the period, so if you're interested in help on the research front, especially on Iberian and Celiberian material, I'd be delighted to assist in any way I can."

Halthabas said that there might be in interest in my being a Spanish speaking researcher for work in on the Iberian/Celtiberian front, so, once again, please do count on me for help in that or any other direction.

Thanks again (especially to Halthabast) and all the best

Hello, I have tremendous respect for Europa Barbarorum's historical scholarship and gameplay. I do not currently have any skills in coding or experience in modding. However I would consider it a privilege to be able to help the development of this mod. And while I don't currently have skills or experience modding, that doesn't mean I can't learn if you just suggest that I go read heavily about other projects and guides for modding if that's what you need but just haven't had the manpower to do so. I'll also be happy to help with some of the more mundane work that doesn't involve a great deal of learning new skills.

How about proofreading? Are you a native english speaker and have a good grasp of the language grammatically and stylistically?

I am a native English speaker, and I'd be happy to help proofread. While I don't know what you would measure my skill in writing English against, I regularly write cases for debate that depend on making ideas very clear and concise.

Correction: I read through the regional descriptions and saw that you used British English so that question is answered.

Well I assume an American can check British egnlish as well. We won't be using English 'slang', most differences would be like replacing armor with armour, no?
If you feel confident that you could help with this that would be a major help.

As far as I know there are very few grammatical differences between American and British English so I would feel confident proofreading there. I will need to start to brush up on vocabulary though, but seeing as I'd need to do that anyway to make sure we label certain provinces right (Britain as Albion) I don't see any problem. When shall I begin?

Hello I was sent from the EBII total war center here by abou. I read a post saying you might have use for someone that can make 3D models. I have worked with Blender and it's what I use. I also have a slight programming experience in C++ but I am rusty on both this skills though making models should come back to me quickly. I am also fluent in Spanish.

Just a question, do you have any jobs for a proof reader or someone to read through large amounts of written information. I was wondering because I believe that I have a very good grasp of the English language (I have it been speaking since I was 3 and moved to the US and it is my dominant language) and when I have a few hours I can read at a speed around a few hundred to a thousand pages per day. Thank you for your time.

    Hello all,

I realise that this is my first post and that I am a forum lurker rather than contributor, but I am a massive fan of all things Europa Barbarorum! Having a steady job for the first time since graduating and finding myself increasingly disillusioned by other games that used to compete for my spare time, I feel that I am in a position to help with your mod.

While I have no experience in modding games, I feel that I could be of help if you guys still need proof-readers or writers. I am an English Literature graduate (first-class honours) and I have had a good deal of experience editing and proof-reading academic papers and dissertations.

I also have some experience with coding (mainly front end CSS, HTML, XML etc.) as I completed a 1 year MSc in Information Technology. However, my coding is rusty as I decided against pursuing a career in IT. Nonetheless, if any of these skills could be helpful for your mod, I would happily put in the effort to gain a working knowledge of any coding required.

I cannot say how much I enjoyed EB. It influenced my English degree as I went from studying Modernism to Renaissance and Classical texts. When I play it, I find myself spending hours reading the descriptions and searching for resources on factions online and on kindle! By offering my help, I hope that if needed, I can give back in any small way to the EB team. I certainly feel like I owe you guys a lot!

    Thanks for your time,

    Ryan

Heeding the call of the recent State of the Mod Address. *salute*

I'm more than happy to work on scripting, traits, or anything regarding general English (writing previews, etc.). It's been forever since I've done any data entry/coding (PHP, QBasic), however, what I do have is a willingness to learn and more time than I know what to do with. I can dedicate at least 4 days a week, now that school and other responsibilities are over with for the foreseeable future. I'm currently reading alpaca's tutorials. For anything more complex, just point me in the the right direction and I'll get to reading and working immediately. A fresh install of kingdoms 1.5 is setup and ready to go.

    IGdood from twc.

Responding to the call of the mod address.

Mainly here as tester, I will not lie. Experience from testing other mods (The Great War for NTW, Thousand Sons from Dawn of War, etc.)

As for modding experience, I've only really dabbled with text editing of units and descr_model_battle, etc.

I did manage to build on the EBBS script and implemented Constantinian Reforms for the SPQR faction in EB 1 for the purpose of a personal mod, but that's about it.

Thought I'd take a few minutes to bring the "Schwarzenackeriz" from the Sweboz preview alive while waiting for a programmer to come along:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Code:

    armour_ug_levels 0
    armour_ug_models Schwarzenackeriz
    ownership hre
(I couldn't find a table mentioning limits on entries.)

    Code:
    {Schwarzenackeriz}Schwarzenackeriz
{Schwarzenackeriz}Skynet eventually gave up on terminating Sarah and John Connor directly, however, old habits die hard. The machines, sifting through Census data, began attacks on the Connor's distant family members. After continually being outwitted by generation after generation, Skynet began "terminating" large swaths of iron age relatives, yet not so much as to inhibit mankind from ultimately constructing Skynet. The stalemate continues...
{Schwarzenackeriz}Schwarzenackeriz are deadly automatons hidden behind human flesh and are equipped with enhanced M134 Miniguns; Perfect for "terminating" a single village in a matter of seconds.
I didn't mess around with battle_models.modeldb as I obviously lack resources.

I am not a modder. My skinning skills are limited to IL2 skins from templates (methinks my Yaks are not your your yaks!) . I can edit text files and have played a very little with some of the game files. I can research, write descriptions and playtest. You probably have an abundance of such "unskilled/semi-skilled" labor but if I can be of any assistance please let me know.
