Default Hawken - The Best Looking Indie Game Ever?

A completely in game video of some truly sweet mech-fighting action:

    http://www.hawkengame.com/blog/

Hawken is a multiplayer mech combat game. The focus is on creating an intense and enjoyable battle experience that captures the feeling of piloting a heavy war machine while keeping the action fast-paced and strategic.

    What game modes are supported?
We have two unique team game modes, as well as team deathmatch and free-for-all deathmatch.

    When will it be released?
When it’s done. We’re not done yet, but development is going well and we should have more announcements soon.

    What engine are you using?
Hawken has been developed using the Unreal Engine from Epic Games.

    What platform is it for?
This is unknown at this point. We are interested in bringing Hawken to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
    News:

Evan Lahti: Not to be flattering in front of all our readers, but your footage is brilliant. Hawken looks bright but post-apocalyptic; the robot fighting seems as speedy as another modern FPSes. How on Earth did nine of you produce this in nine months?

Jon Kreuzer, Technical Lead at Adhesive Games: Haha, thanks for the flattery. It was nine months, but actually less than nine people for most of that time. Our studio is now up to nine people including interns. We have some talented artists and have stayed focused on our core game. Many parts of the levels are created by combining re-usable building blocks into unique structures, which can allow new levels to come together quickly. We don’t have the resources to develop an engine from scratch so we started with UDK [Unreal Development Kit] which turned out to be an excellent choice.
I think this will be pretty awesome. Anyone else hankering for some mech action?

I don't like the fast-paced bit all that much but otherwise it looks interesting.

It's just that I don't see the point in giving you a 30-ton mech when it plays almost the same as Unreal or Quake.

A bit like the developers have given up on making something different and just go "Oh yeah, it has mechs, but don't worry, it still plays like Call of Duty!!"

I'm just astounded at the time frame with so few people. I mean. Either they are making it look better/bigger than it is or they work in a sweatshop.

One day we will get our wish where our 30tonne mechs actually handle like 30tonne mechs. We won't be skirting around like gundams or changing direction like the laws of physics suddenly stop applying for us.

What you're saying is you want another proper MechWarrior game.

    I agree. :(
